Well, in a meek attempt to defend tourists, the locals have the advantage of their full wardrobe in their homes nearby and most of them are not walking about constantly in their home towns either. It is hard to look stylish every day of a two or three week trip in clothes you have packed in a little suitcase. I commend those who try though.

Hi Ann...your requirements in your post were basically identical to mine when we went to the UK in early March. We did walk everywhere and I ended up wearing my "almost-to-the knee" Nine West boots with about a 2 1/4 inche heel EVERYWHERE...I also had some ankle high, more boxy square toe boots...you know...with the heavy tread...like skechers...with a lower heel that i would alternate. Worked out great! (and I stayed true to my fashionable self!) have a blast.

oh-and i forgot to add-we were in London for a couple of days but mostly we were in the countryside...walking through castle ruins, etc...

What do you were the ankle length boots with? I see them in th stores and I can't imagine them going with anything!

Danielle,
What is your brand of boots? Are they lined? I've always found unlined leather boots to be chilly.

I have looked on LLBean's website - they have some nice ones for snow/rain with a nice leather finish and a heel somewhere aroun 1 1/2 inches. I live in a snowy area now so they would be good for later too. Anyone have these?

Homer-you wear them with jeans or pants.

Jen,

My boots were no particular brand - but I bought them in Australia and they are probably made in China. To be honest - I've had them about 2 years and the brand name has worn off - I do know they were very inexpensive so I've probably just been lucky I guess with the quality and comfort.

No they weren't lined with fur or anything like that but I did wear them with wool socks so they kept my feet nice and warm.

I wear mine with trousers and jeans only (they'd look pretty tacky with skirts or shorts).
