By the way, while Fanta is a product of the Coca Cola Company, I'm reasonable sure that it originally comes from Germany (or at least something with the same name, if not the taste). <BR><BR>During the war, the German subsidiary of the Coca Cola Company was cut off from the basic supply for Coke from the States and developed some fruit drink instead to stay in buisiness. After the war, the people of Coke were rather surprised to find someone in Germany who still considered himself a licensee of their company and there as some legal gobbledegook about it. I guess that Fanta was kept going by the German subsidiary because the ingredients were probably cheaper directly after the war than an US import and because the customers were used to it. Obviously the idea of a fruit drink by Coca Cola got marketed in other European countries too, but never found its way to the USA.

This has nothing to do with Europe either, but just recently had a wonderful martini in Miami at Bruschetta's - vodka, Bacardi limon, Italian limoncello(a?), slice of lemon. Wow! Who knew martinis could be so delicious?

FANTA!!! it's soooo fabulous! I had it 2 years ago for the first time in Austria, and now whenever someone goes to Europe I make them bring me back a bottle to the states. Orange is good, but lemon is by far the best!

Now, can anybody tell me if Surge soda is still made? It was banned in Pennsylvania because the caffeine rush was intense.

There is an import store in Manhattan that imports French beverages (Marche Madison on Madison Ave) if you want to pay tons of dollars for French water. Fanta is owned by Coca-Cola, so why don't you call up their PR or customer service dept and ask them? I read some business news that said they started to distribute Fanta in the US SW (LA, San Diego, TX, NM, and AZ) because they think fruit flavor soft drinks appeal to Hispanics.

You can get an amazing french lemon soda at Fairway's in Manhattan on the UWS. I think it's called Effeveuvre or something (it's in a nifty large glass bottle with a flip stopper top) and it's INCREDIBLE! Akin to Fanta Lemon.

I am feeling so left out!! I have never tasted a Lemon Fanta and now I want one-do I have to go to Europe for one? That isn't the worst thing to me, but it might take a couple of months-can't I get one before that? And living in NY-does that mean I have to get a yucky tasting fake?

CDF - as a previous poster suggested, try San Pellegrino Limonata (typically available in Italian food markets, likely not a problem if you live in NYC). It reminds me (and don't say, "eeewww,") of plain tom collins mix. I like it , but then again, I also like Fresca which is grapefruit soda.

btw, for fellow fanta junkies out there i found club lemon (from ireland) to be an adequate substitute..i have also tried florina from greece but it tastes kinda funky....

I'm a fanta addict too and I hate that I cannot find fanta anywhere anymore. They used to sell it here when I was a child :(<BR>For the posters from Canada who say they sell it there....where do they sell it??? I am from ONtario and they don't sell it in any grocery or corner shops.

When we were in Spain(circa 1985), we drank vodka con limon(vodka with Lemon Fanta)! A great drink...thus, we have searched for Fanta Lemon ever since. Let us know if you find it - thanks.

Trader Joes has a great french lemon, now I am looking for a french mineral water that I don't think is available here-Bandoit.

In Spain, you can ask for Kas Limon. The original owners were a family of Vitoria, and afterwards their company was bought by Pepsi. It´s not so sweet as Fanta, and great with gin, vodka or simply alone.

Many years ago, I think in the early 60's Coca Cola distributed Fanta flavors in Mass (I worked for them summers while in school) I think that at that time there was just to much competition and they stopped. The flavors were really good though.<BR>
