lemon fanta

ok, this is not really a travel question but is there anyone who knows how to import lemon fanta to the states?...everyone time i go to europe i can't seem to get enough of this stuff... <BR>thanks,

Karen Jul 29th, 2001 02:44 PM

Try Pop Shoppe website...they have hundreds of kinds of pop and ship anywhere. It is located in Scottsdale, AZ.

janis Jul 29th, 2001 08:32 PM

Check if there are any British food shops in your city. I live in Northern California and there are several in my general area. I can get Fanta, chocolate digestive biscuits, skittles, wheetabix, oxo, bird's custard and all the other "musts".

martha python Jul 30th, 2001 04:31 AM

Would you accept San Pelligrino's lemon soda instead? The Whole Foods Market near me sells that; I assume all of them do. <BR>PS Always glad to find another lemon soda fan out there.

mike Jul 30th, 2001 08:45 AM

thanks for all the replies...i just emailed the arizona store since they only list orange fanta on their website; as for the san pelligrano, i'll take a look but i don't think i have seen it around manhattan..it seems lemon drinks are quite limited in nyc and for the 1 or 2 brands available, they taste terrible... <BR> <BR>btw, ever noticed that sodas taste quite differently esp in europe? i know the manufacturers tailor the formula according to local taste, but a couple times when i tried coke in greece, it tasted terrible... <BR> <BR>just my 2 cents...

Vicki Jul 30th, 2001 08:50 AM

They really do alter their formula according to the local tastebuds. If you ever go to Las Vegas there is a giant coke bottle that is an elevator. When you get upstairs you can drink variations of coke from all over the world.

fanta Jul 30th, 2001 09:53 AM

lemon fanta = lemon barley squash + frizzy water . <BR>frizzy water = club soda <BR>lemon barley squash = easy to get anywhere . <BR> <BR>Absolutely tremendous on a hot summer day beside the pool. <BR> <BR>By all means , don't pay a zillion bucks for the imported bottled stuff . The do it yourself stuff tastes the same , for 1/10 the price.

Darlene Jul 30th, 2001 11:21 AM

Never heard of this lemon barley squash. What exactly is it? A vegetable, liquid, grain?

janis Jul 30th, 2001 11:26 AM

Sorry - Lemon Barley Squash isn't available in the States (except at british import shops) <BR> <BR>Squash is a citrus drink - lemon Squash, Orange Squash, etc. In the UK they call what we call "squash" (the vegtables) "marrows" or "Courgettes" (zuchini)

mike Nov 29th, 2001 08:48 PM

fanta lemon redux:<BR><BR>sorry to ask a non-travel related question but to followup on the previous question, does anyone know of any shops (particularly british/french import shops)in the nyc area that might import this stuff? i can't believe that i can have fanta in uk, france, greece or just about any civilized world except the US, it's driving me crazy...<BR><BR>any help is greatly appreciated...

Philip Nov 30th, 2001 03:32 AM

In NYC, you might try Myers of Keswick. This is a shop in Greenwich Village which imports British products. They are at 634 Hudson Street. Their phone is 212-691-4194.

dl Nov 30th, 2001 05:13 AM

The reason soda tastes different in europe is that they do not carbonate as much and the water used is different and goes thru different types of filterations sytems, etc. I prefer german "coke lite" to the american diet coke. As for lemon barley squash, it also comes in orange and I buy it in an IRish shop in Heidelberg, Germany. So if there is any Irish shops or pubs near you, they may have it. If there is a pub the manager may be willing to sell it to you for a slight profit. The stuff costs about 5 bucks a bottle. Good luck and I will have to try a lemon fanta as soon as I see one in Germany.

Meg Nov 30th, 2001 06:19 AM

There is a deli on 1st Avenue around 9th street that sells lots of British Imports. I believe it is near the Telephone Bar. You'd be surprised how many random places in NY carry imports.<BR>I'll post the name if I remember it, good luck.

mike Nov 30th, 2001 11:05 AM

thanks for all the replies...it's just that most fruit pops leave a bad aftertaste or they taste like tang or kool-aid...oddly enough i found orange fanta in greek astoria but it comes from yugoslavia..go figure...

sam Nov 30th, 2001 11:20 AM

DL - You made me smile when you mentioned the Irish shop in Heidelberg - I'm in there everytime I'm over there - do you live nearby?

NoName Nov 30th, 2001 04:55 PM

Does anyone remember a poster on this forum named Fanta who tried to convince people to travel within the U.S.A.????

BB Nov 30th, 2001 06:54 PM

When I was in Germany in the '80s there was a great soft drink by the name of Lift. Have not seen it on more recent trips. Does anyone know if it's still available?

BB Nov 30th, 2001 07:22 PM

Oops, forgot to mention that Lift is/was a lemon soft drink also.

dl Dec 3rd, 2001 02:46 AM

I live in Germany and yes Lift is still available, I have occasionally seen it in smaller kiosks. I was at my local donner kabob store last nite and they had 4 different Fanta, evidently it comes in berry, orange, lemon (which was quite tasty) and melon. So I guess it is more widely available than I thought. As for the question of my proximity to Heidelberg, I live about an hour away. Whenever friends or family come over they always want to go see the Heidelberg castle- which really isn't that interesting. So needless to say it is always a pleasure strolling thru the shopping district and pointing up and saying "Look its the Heidelberg castle".

Elizabeth Dec 3rd, 2001 03:43 AM

Mike.......we have tons of it up here. Check this web site which lists all soft drinks being sold in Canada. All sorts of Fanta flavours. If you are close to the border, shouldn`t be a problem .......or if you know someone, probably happy to "ease your pain". Th e site is http://www.softdrink.ca/sdibrane.htm<BR>

Hans H Dec 3rd, 2001 05:38 AM

By the way, while Fanta is a product of the Coca Cola Company, I'm reasonable sure that it originally comes from Germany (or at least something with the same name, if not the taste). <BR><BR>During the war, the German subsidiary of the Coca Cola Company was cut off from the basic supply for Coke from the States and developed some fruit drink instead to stay in buisiness. After the war, the people of Coke were rather surprised to find someone in Germany who still considered himself a licensee of their company and there as some legal gobbledegook about it. I guess that Fanta was kept going by the German subsidiary because the ingredients were probably cheaper directly after the war than an US import and because the customers were used to it. Obviously the idea of a fruit drink by Coca Cola got marketed in other European countries too, but never found its way to the USA.

BB Dec 3rd, 2001 06:29 AM

Thanks dl for locating Lift. Guess I'll need to plan another trip to Germany now!

sweetie Dec 3rd, 2001 06:35 AM

Who would have thought that a question about a soft drink would lead to so much discussion? :) I think this is an indication of how many sweet "tooths" are out there~

Elizabeth Dec 3rd, 2001 11:05 AM

Sweetie: Not so much a beverage, but up here in the Great White North, it is the greatest with Ron Barcardi White Rum.......and in the summer with Gin. Yumm Yumm !!!

Shanna Dec 6th, 2001 10:07 AM

This has nothing to do with Europe either, but just recently had a wonderful martini in Miami at Bruschetta's - vodka, Bacardi limon, Italian limoncello(a?), slice of lemon. Wow! Who knew martinis could be so delicious?

Erin Dec 6th, 2001 10:55 AM

FANTA!!! it's soooo fabulous! I had it 2 years ago for the first time in Austria, and now whenever someone goes to Europe I make them bring me back a bottle to the states. Orange is good, but lemon is by far the best!

Sodajerk Dec 6th, 2001 11:13 AM

Now, can anybody tell me if Surge soda is still made? It was banned in Pennsylvania because the caffeine rush was intense.

Christina Dec 6th, 2001 11:29 AM

There is an import store in Manhattan that imports French beverages (Marche Madison on Madison Ave) if you want to pay tons of dollars for French water. Fanta is owned by Coca-Cola, so why don't you call up their PR or customer service dept and ask them? I read some business news that said they started to distribute Fanta in the US SW (LA, San Diego, TX, NM, and AZ) because they think fruit flavor soft drinks appeal to Hispanics.

Jules Dec 6th, 2001 11:30 AM

You can get an amazing french lemon soda at Fairway's in Manhattan on the UWS. I think it's called Effeveuvre or something (it's in a nifty large glass bottle with a flip stopper top) and it's INCREDIBLE! Akin to Fanta Lemon.

Capo Dec 6th, 2001 11:34 AM

The first time I saw a can of Pschitt (a lemon soda) in Paris, I cracked up...and had to buy one to bring home as a hilarious conversation piece. :~) <BR><BR>http://www.bpmlegal.com/wpschitt.html<BR><BR>http://www.deja-hier.com/pschitt.Asp<BR><BR>http://www.math.wisc.edu/~lo/pschitt/pschitt.html<BR><BR>

cdf Dec 6th, 2001 11:41 AM

I am feeling so left out!! I have never tasted a Lemon Fanta and now I want one-do I have to go to Europe for one? That isn't the worst thing to me, but it might take a couple of months-can't I get one before that? And living in NY-does that mean I have to get a yucky tasting fake?

Liam Dec 11th, 2001 09:15 AM

CDF - as a previous poster suggested, try San Pellegrino Limonata (typically available in Italian food markets, likely not a problem if you live in NYC). It reminds me (and don't say, "eeewww,") of plain tom collins mix. I like it , but then again, I also like Fresca which is grapefruit soda.

mike Dec 21st, 2001 10:40 PM

btw, for fellow fanta junkies out there i found club lemon (from ireland) to be an adequate substitute..i have also tried florina from greece but it tastes kinda funky....

Stef Dec 22nd, 2001 04:35 AM

I'm a fanta addict too and I hate that I cannot find fanta anywhere anymore. They used to sell it here when I was a child :(<BR>For the posters from Canada who say they sell it there....where do they sell it??? I am from ONtario and they don't sell it in any grocery or corner shops.

Bill Dec 22nd, 2001 04:40 AM

When we were in Spain(circa 1985), we drank vodka con limon(vodka with Lemon Fanta)! A great drink...thus, we have searched for Fanta Lemon ever since. Let us know if you find it - thanks.

mimi taylor Dec 22nd, 2001 05:21 AM

Trader Joes has a great french lemon, now I am looking for a french mineral water that I don't think is available here-Bandoit.

cova Dec 22nd, 2001 05:24 AM

In Spain, you can ask for Kas Limon. The original owners were a family of Vitoria, and afterwards their company was bought by Pepsi. It´s not so sweet as Fanta, and great with gin, vodka or simply alone.

Betsy Dec 22nd, 2001 06:15 AM

Hi Mimi<BR><BR>Badoit is available in the SF Bay Area. I'll check around and get back to you.

mimi taylor Dec 22nd, 2001 07:40 AM

Thanks Betsy, and don't forget to check on the HB, let me know by email.

Art Dec 22nd, 2001 08:28 AM

Many years ago, I think in the early 60's Coca Cola distributed Fanta flavors in Mass (I worked for them summers while in school) I think that at that time there was just to much competition and they stopped. The flavors were really good though.<BR>
