I've read a lot of recommendations for this restaurant and checked their website. I didn't see the open hours. The restaurant is a little out of our budget for an evening meal. Is it open for lunch, with lower prices? It looks gorgeous.

We like to sit in the back, the smoking area, because hardly anyone smokes now and it is not as crowded and noisy.

I've had dinner there twice but also wondering if lunch is less expensive?

I had lunch at Le Train Bleu Express last September. Food was very good and great for people watching. Noisy with the throngs of people all over the place. But it was worth it to only have to walk about 30 seconds to catch the 2:20 TGV to Avignon..on a full stomach.

In my opinion it's over priced and not that good - you're paying for the room.

I agree that it is a bit overpriced, but it is really a nice experience; the room evokes the Belle Epoque in grand style.

Hmmm, what about just going in for a glass of wine?

If you do go to the Train Bleu, be sure to rent a DVD of the film 'La Femme Nikita' in which the entire restaurant is totally destroyed.

Le Train Bleu is featured in the new ”Mr. Bean’s Holiday,” where Rowan Atkinson has his odd way with a seafood platter. I wouldn’t recommend eating the shellfish the way he does, and, unfortunately. I wouldn’t recommend the movie (though it does have a hilarious operatic sequence in a marketplace).

Thanks all. Glad to hear it's open for lunch. Lunch is usually a good option for trying a restaurant that's a bit out of our price range. Usually the menu is more limited, but you get some of the experience. So that's probably what we'll do.

Can anyone report on lunch pricing or the sorts of dishes served at lunch?

It is after all "just" a train station restaurant. I would imagine that the meal menu is the same for lunch or dinner.

Go to le-train-bleu.com and see the menu for yourself. Going to the bar is a great idea, if you don't like the selection and prices. It is all the way to the left from the entrance and there are large leather chairs and low tables. I would go there in a minute. Enjoy! CJ

Go to the website to see what it looks like. click on the menu to get a feel for the prices. There is an English version, too.

We have had lunch there more than once because the place just wows us. If you are at the Gare du Lyon, just walk up the stairs and through the doors. There is no charge for gawking.

I suspect my lunch menu was different from the dinner menu as the "express" is for a relatively quick lunch. I recall having foie gras as a starter and Magret de Canard as a main course, along with a 1/2 bottle of Brouilly, finishing up with coffee and tarte tatin. As I recall, I spent about 50 Euros, including a tip. I enjoyed it very much, but the downside of course, is the noise.

Go just before lunch and have a glass of wine in the bar/lounge and watch the elegant folk arrive for lunch. It is just lovely. Don't miss going to the rest room.
This is such a wonderful place to see what it might have been like to travel in style by train.

Sounds fun. Is it walkable from Notre Dame?
