If, like Therese, I got this hotel using Priceline it would be fine. But choosing it for my dream trip to Paris - absolutely no way.

It is not near anything of interest and is just a huge impersonal convention hotel. How much are you paying? That would give us an idea of other places to suggest that would be better.

The Meridian also has lift music.

I got it online for $100 through Priceline. Therese how long of a walk was it? I like to walk to and would much rather walk then pay money.

sdhall2, I can't tell you exactly how long a single walk would take you, but can tell you that I did Parc Monceau (including sitting some time at the park), Arc de Triomphe, Champs-Elysees (including a glass of wine at a cafe) all the way down to Tuileries in an afternoon.

And I walked from the Tour Eiffel back to the Le Meridien Etoile (having taken the metro down, as it was so early) the morning that my flight left. A lovely walk in the early morning hours, just me and the joggers and the street sweepers.

You got an excellent rate for this hotel, and I wouldn't agonize over it. The surrounding neighborhood is affluent, and there's good shopping (a draw for me) in the area.

Plugged it into mappy.com and got 21 minutes (for 1.4 km) on foot to Arc de Triomphe, 34 minutes (for 2.3 km) to Parc Monceau.

You also have a direct RER to the Eiffel Tower, the Mus&eacute;e d'Orsay and Saint Michel from the M&eacute;ridien Etoile. It's not that bad of a location.

That's true, I had forgotten you could get on the RER C line from Porte Maillot and go over to St Michel, so that is pretty convenient. Official time is about 25 minutes from Porte Maillot to St Michel stop, I think. I presume maybe you have to be sure you get on the right train, as maybe some go south towards Versailles from there? I don't know, never took C from that direction.

As long as you are out there, might take the short hop over to La Defense. I like the architecture of that and it's a good view. There is also a good shopping center out there.

I think that for that rate, you got a great deal. It is nice to stay at a hotel with good plumbing, comfortable beds, and enough room to walk around the bed - 4* business-class hotels are usually very pleasant that way. I would not stint on transit fares, however. Sure you will do a lot of walking, but you can see a lot more if you combine a lot of walking with a little public transit.

Yes, you have to figure out which RER C you want to be on if you're going very far (as I did when I visited friends near Rambouillet).

Still, very convenient.
