Le Marche
 

Hello Fodorites.....we are about ready to book our hotels for June in Le Marche....we arrive on June 11th and will be in Rome for 2 nights. We wanted to explore both Ascoli Piceno as well as Urbino. We wanted a place on the way back to Rome airport that wasn't terribly far and it was recommende that we try www.hotelvillaclementina.it in Bracciaono. We were also referred to La Tavola Marche and Albergo Italia, Corso Garibaldi, 32, 61029 Urbino as well as Albergo Piceno. Any feed back on these places and do you think that 7 nights will enable us to do the above (not including the two nights spent in Rome). Thanks for any input.

We stayed at Albergo Italia in 2009 and very much enjoyed the hotel. We had a room with views overlooking the city and countryside, and it was like a picture. Just down the street from the main piazza in town, so we often walked down for a drink at any of a number of cafes.

At the time, parking was in the city lot underneath the town. It was something a little complicated, as I vaguely recall, in terms of buying a one-hour pass, then going to the hotel to get a pass for the number of days that we were staying there. But the parking was a short distance from the hotel, so it was no problem. When we travel, we prefer to stay IN towns, so we can walk around, people-watch, eat at a variety of restaurants and not have to worry about driving after dinner.

BTW, Urbino is a gorgeous little city, as is the surrounding countryside. I mostly wanted to go there to see the studiolo in the Palazzo Ducale, so don't miss it. Raphael's house, I felt, was interesting as an example of a home of that time period.

We spent 3 nights at Albergo Piceno 2 years ago,and were delighted with it:the kindness and thoughtfulness of the staff and the efforts made by all to create a memorable and meaningful stay for us.The manager..[owner]..provided excellent suggestions for restaurants and the woman at the desk mapped out extraordinary itineraries for us each day.Breakfasts were superb,with bottomless cappucinos provided.The albergo is well situated in the old town,which is a wonderful place .To sit in the travertine paved main piazza,early morning or in time for the evening passiagata encompasses the travel experience at its best.
