WHEN IT RAINS IT POURS!! I HAD PLANNED ON MEETING BOYFRIEND IN LONDON AND STAYING WITH FRIENDS; BUT NOW HES NO LONGER IN THE PICTURE AND I HAVE TO MAKE NEW PLANS. I WILL BE IN LONDON FOR 20 DAYS. I WOULD APPRECITATE ANY SUGGESTIONS AND WHERE TO STAY ON A BUDGET AND ANY OTHER IDEAS AND HOW TO MAKE THE BEST OF THIS TRIP. THANKS NICEGAL

You can go to Paris or Amsterdam from there. I wouldnt stay in London 20 days. Is your ticket round trip? Change it to multi leg if you can.

Or hop aroung on the cheap airlines like Ryan Air. You can even go down to Florence, take the train to Brugges, There's a whole world out there from London. Show that guy you don't need him to have a great time.

Go and have yourself a great time. There are several places within a easy train ride of London.

Check out independent Hostels in London on the web. There are lots of them. Low priced and lots of other solo travelers.

I agree with the other posters. You can see a lot of other places in 20 days. I'd get out of the rain, grab a cheap flight and head to Barcelona or Nice.

You can still have a great time!

Sorry about what happened but at least maybe this will turn into a positive. Here is my 2 cents..
Try St. Margarets Hotel on Bedford Place You can access their website at www.stmargaretshotel.co.uk. The entire block that this particular hotel is located on is filled with hotels that are for the budget minded. The location is good in my opinion especially for the rate you are paying.
Another hotel on the same street is Haddon Hall Hotel. I have stayed there and it was adequate. Nothing fancy. Clean. Staff was pleasant. My room reminded me of my college dorm room. The St. Margarets is very popular and books fast. There are two other hotels on that same street which I have not heard good things about..The Reston and The Lonsdale...perhaps things may have improved I am not sure.
Anyway this area I like because I find it convenient to a lot of popular tourist destinations. The site for St. Margaret's gives pretty detailed information about the location etc...
Anyway I wish you the best. Of course you could also try Priceline and get a much nicer property possibly for the same amount or less. There is a website www.biddingfortravel.com that explains Priceline. Also of course there are tons of Fodorites that may have a better suggestion.

Use this opportunity to find out how much you enjoy solo travelling. And definitely check out the some of the other countries in Europe - think of it as a chance to do what you want, without having to consider anyone else's preferences!

If you have 20 days why not see southern England and Wales? Or even go up to Scotland.. 3 weeks is a long time.

personally i like to really get the feel for any neighborhood i'm staying in... i often travel solo. am sorry for your unwanted change of plans.

just fly yourself in, get a hotel, and wander around checking thing out. i'm no expert on london, but generally do fine getting set up & picking up local publications for what's going on in the neighborhood. you'll be fine!

Nicegal,consider yourself fortunate to have found out in time what a jerk he Was!!!There are a LOTS of Fish in the Seas.. Go to Europe, have fun.. but 20 days in London is way too much.. You need to stay in lively atmosphere, with great weather and friendly people.. Take a train to Sunny Italy and spend some time there!!Believe me is the best way to forget anybody...

I've had a lot of fun traveling solo in Europe, and as people have said it's much easier to meet new people that way.

I'd suggest making the most of England (including the Lakes District and the Dales), perhaps pop up to Edinburgh, and check out Wales. I've spent 3 weeks in the UK and left wishing I had more time. Of course a long weekend or so in Paris would be fun too, or you can save that for the next 'good' boyfriend!

C'est dommage. Take a look at europebyair.com. They have a $99 pass that can take you from London to Dubrovnik, Rome, Venice, Brussels and back to London.

Come on down to Kent! We have Leeds Castle, Canterbury, Dover Castle, quaint villages - all sorts! Kent is just South of London and wouldnt it be nice to get out of the Old Smokey? By the way, the old BF is a loser! ;)

PS what about the Eurostar (channel tunnel) to Paris? Not as cheap as Easyjet flights though.

Wow. Yes, best to find out now so he doesn't ruin your trip! I agree about investigating cheap flights to other locations for part of that 20 days. I flew Ryanair VERY cheaply to Italy and back to London. If you make sure you land in a place that has good train connections, you are set. Why do this? Well, in part because London is SO EXPENSIVE. It is true that there are lots of great day trips from London, and nearby interesting places to visit...and knowing London does take a lifetime. Rather than hitting you in the face with its nooks & crannies & treasures, it is more like peeling an onion. But so worth it. What you decide to do depends on you, of course. You may be able to make your money go along farther with a trip elsewhere in there, but London alone is fine too. Have a great time! Once you have some speciafic ideas of what appeals to you, come back for comments.

One more thing, Nicegal. When you get on the airplane, sit back, put your arms on the rests, close your eyes, smile and say to yourself, "I'm on a trip of a lifetime! I'm going to experience incredible things and meet interesting people...by myself! Yes!"
