Besides, reneeinva, just think what a lifesaver you would be, if the power went out on the plane or something. You'd have the adapter, transformer, voltage regulator, converter, vibrator, and a pair of jumper cables, and of course the light bulb, right there in your carry-on! :))

platzman Mar 14th, 2004 09:28 AM

I'm very concerned. Would it be best to arrive without light bulbs??? Or should I bring a few light bulbs just to get started, and purchase the rest as I go along?

reneeinva Mar 14th, 2004 10:12 AM

Marilyn and Brimham -
You are so right. Thank you thank you!

BUT, what if the rude traveler in front of me who has an odor and dandruf tries to recline his/her seat and breaks my light bulb?

What then?! I am in a panic and I may not be able to sleep.

reneeinva Mar 14th, 2004 10:14 AM

See?! I am so upset I forgot how to spell dandruff.

cigalechanta Mar 14th, 2004 10:21 AM

Next time don't sit on your light bulb.

easytraveler Mar 14th, 2004 11:02 AM

How many light bulbs should I bring for my cell phone? Or would it be better to rent them there?

mcgeezer Mar 14th, 2004 12:32 PM

All light bulbs should be changed to basic black. Everyone knows that!

BrimhamRocks Mar 14th, 2004 12:44 PM

My dear, how droll. Dear, I suggest you make an effort to chuck LAST YEAR'S light bulbs. I mean, really, my dear, who would be caught dead with anything other than the most current, most upmarket bulbs? Get with the program, dear. How naff.

(evil grin)

Alice_the_Magyar Mar 14th, 2004 12:47 PM

Will security take my light bulbs from my carry on? How can I pack them so they don't break? :) :)

easytraveler Mar 14th, 2004 01:05 PM

I understand that in Europe many lights are on timers. You have to press a switch at the bottom of the stairs to turn the light and timer on. There's a switch at the top of the stairs as well.

If I have to bring my own light bulbs, do I have to bring the switches too?

How many switches do I have to bring?

I'm really stressed over this, since my smallest suitcase is only 35", with no wheels, and I have to bring my wedding dress to show my aunt in Romania who wasn't able to come to my wedding.

Actually, I am just glad not to have a proliferation of posts like:

"Help. Kinda dark in my house"

I think we need lights. What kind should we get?

grosenb Mar 14th, 2004 07:30 PM

I am going to Europe next week. I need a restaurant recommendation. Which one has the brightest light lulbs? And of course do I have to pay in euros or will they take cash?

cigalechanta Mar 14th, 2004 07:38 PM

this is weird!!!!!!!!!!!
two of the above posts have my name and they are not written by me???
What th....????

cigalechanta Mar 14th, 2004 07:40 PM

strange, now it's back to normal.
The spirits must be restless tonight.

WillTravel Mar 15th, 2004 01:03 AM

There has to be someone to put the card in the wall so that the lightbulb works.

easytraveler Mar 15th, 2004 06:07 AM

Card? What card? Nobody told me about cards?!!!

Which Player card do I have to carry to Europe to turn the lights on? The Queen of Hearts? The King of Spades???

Leaving tomorrow! Help!

We are family of 3.6 adults and 1.7 bimbos. We just started planning an indepth tour of 9 foreign countries. All of us are pretty laid back and don't like to rush into anything, so we thought it would be real nice to go over a long weekend, may be this next weekend. Do you think this will leave enough time to change light bulbs and still make our next connection? Have any of you ever gone by water taxi to London from Venice and still have time to see the Queen? O! I just love light bulbs...so contropical.

mclaurie Mar 15th, 2004 08:20 AM

My friend told me the best place to buy lightbulbs in Paris is in the 16th but I'm staying in the 6th. Any thoughts on whether it's worth changing hotels?

easytraveler Mar 15th, 2004 09:07 AM

On the eve of my departure, I'm getting more confused. I have to come to Fodors as the only place to get the right answer. Fodorites have been sooo helpful in the past. Thank you so very much with all your tips, especially the one on how to cross the Seine River on camelback.

Here's my question: my friend tells me that I have to go to Holland and get my bulbs there. She says to make sure they are tulip-shaped. Don't they sell tulip-shaped bulbs in Paris?

Please help! I'm not going to have time to stop in Holland. My plane lands in St Petersburg at midnight tomorrow and I have to be in Paris the next morning for that camelback tour of Paris.

Thanks for all your help so far! I've got my voltage regulator, converter, adapter, transformer, vibrator, pair of jumper cables, and pink jogging suit all packed in my 45" backpack and my wedding dress is in my 35" suitcase.

cigalechanta Mar 15th, 2004 09:21 AM

Buy your bulbs in Paris, shaped like the Eiffel Tower. Wear your wedding dress while riding on the camels back, the tourists will enjoy that. Wear the pink jogging suit into the Louvre, everyone will think you were the model for the clown paintings. Above all have a laughing time "lighting"up the City of Light.
