Let's see if I can remember to answer some of the questions! Yes, we did visit Rovinj (while staying in Istria). We spent a few hours there and loved it. Great little market, had lunch at restaurant on the water, walked the waterfront, did not climb to the cathedral. Beautiful harbor.
Regarding traveling from Hvar to Korcula, we took the Krilo catamaran, left Hvar at 5:00 pm. In Korcula, our sobe was just a 5 minute walk into the old town. There are quite a few sobe's along the road where we stayed. We saw people looking for rooms when we were walking and they seemed to find them!
Regarding sobe's in Hvar - I know Rick Steve's mentions one in his new Croatia-Slovenia book that came out in April. We already had our reservations, tho. You might check it out. I think he has more than one actually.

We did not visit the ruins near Trogir, have seen lots of them elsewhere!!!
Just writing about our travels to Croatia make me want to go back, enjoy everyone! Sasi

Sasi---is the sobe you stayed at in Korcula Rezi DePolo from Rick Steve's book---if so, am staying there at the beginning of September so thanks for the thumbs up and also how close to the center of town. I'll be taking the afternoon catamaran from Hvar then the bus from Korcula to Dubrovnik.
