The problem in Paris is that nobody has snow tires, there is almost no salt or other products available for the roads, and the rare snowplows are reserved for the autoroutes and the national highways. And, of course, the locals don't know how to drive on snow or ice.

A good replacement of salt is kitty litter, work like a charm.

What a relief...I thought it was just us down here in Atlanta without snow tires!:-)
Would love to have snow for my Christmas visit but God, I hope CDG isn't closed on 12/21!! That just will not do! |
We live in Wisconsin----2 feet might slow us up, but 2 inches!
kerouac---I somehow knew you'd come up with some photos. It looks beautiful and I wish I was there. |
Many people were stuck in their cars all night long around Paris. Some slept in gymnasiums and others even slept in bed shops!

Today is bright and sunny, temps around 37 degrees right now, about 3:45 p.m. The road ways in Paris look good, lots of the sidewalks are OK but still many icy areas due to shade and temps staying cold. I think some of the buses are not running on time but I had no problems getting around at all. It's amazing what a difference one day can make.
Was crossing thru Place des Vosges a little while ago and saw some maintenance crews trying to chip away the thick ice on the street, especially in the areas that are shaded by the tall buildings. If the weather is correct, it looks like we may have sun again tomorrow, it is gorgeous out. Plan to go see the christmas tree at Galleries Lafayette and take a walk to look at the lights. |
