Its Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Open discussion on travel, where have you been lately??? We went to Paris in May, stayed in the 7th, this was our fourth trip.<BR><BR>Lets talk

Grasshopper Jun 28th, 2002 10:04 AM

I got back from a week in the Netherlands on business last Friday. Today I'm leaving for 12 days in Switzerland. Locarno and Vevey. I need to leave my office and pack!<BR><BR>Ciao.

Bruce Hayes Jun 28th, 2002 10:04 AM

My wife and I are going to Paris in early September and will be staying in the 7th (Grand Hotel Leveque on Rue Cler).<BR><BR>What did you think of the 7th?

s.fowler Jun 28th, 2002 10:06 AM

Just got back from Paris and Belgium on Tuesday -- still jetlagged. Had a wonderful trip -- also stayed in the 7th at Hotel La Motte Picquet [for the 3rd time] Visited many museums, drank a lot of GOOD red wine, thoroughly explored Montmartre and the covered passages/galeries with the help of the American guide recommended on this board -- Michael Osman. Even though I know Paris it was great to have another person's "take". He's very knowledgeable and a lot of fun!

christine Jun 28th, 2002 10:07 AM

Went to London and Burgandy, France for two weeks in May. Had an amazing time, although found out was pregenant just before the trip which but put a dent in the pub crawls.

Lori Jun 28th, 2002 10:08 AM

Was in the South of France the beginning of May for 10 days. Nice and Provence. Las Vegas (for the fake Paris) possibly in October, and watching the dollar vs euro for maybe a quick weekend in Paris in November. Gotta Christmas shop you know!!

Eric Jun 28th, 2002 10:13 AM

The 7th is a very nice quite place to stay, we also stayed on Rue cler walked by your hotel everyday, you will love the neighborhood. We purchased a bottle of wine everynight and would go back to our hotel and drink wine and plan our next day.

elaine Jun 28th, 2002 10:14 AM

I was going to respond to your title with "thank god"! but I think now that's unconstitutional.<BR><BR>My last overseas trip was London in Feb. I'm holding off on the next plan until some other major issues in my life settle down. I'm aching for Italy and/or Paris again, but also want to get Amsterdam "off the list."

Vita Jun 28th, 2002 10:15 AM

Went to London for the first time in May.

Eric Jun 28th, 2002 10:18 AM

We also stayed at the Hotel Picquet, how did you like the poodle? Also did you get to meet Danielle, probably spelled her name wrong, oh well.

Eric Jun 28th, 2002 10:20 AM

Hey Lori<BR><BR>How did you like the south of France, I would love to go and check it out.

russ Jun 28th, 2002 10:21 AM

Elaine,<BR><BR>How about, "Thank (insert deity of your choice)"?<BR><BR>Had great time in Italy and France 2 weeks ago. HOT! In Paris stayed in the 6th on Rue Jacob and loved it.

Tammy Jun 28th, 2002 10:28 AM

Went to Kent, London and Paris in May. Now I'm in the early planning stages for Italy in fall 2003! Also, it looks like the family wants to go to Scotland in 2004. Talk about long term planning!

Peter Jun 28th, 2002 10:48 AM

Got back from Paris last week. Stayed in the 6th on Rue Du Dragon. Walked everywhere. Bought a 5-day museum pass. Louvre is open until 9:45 on Mondays and Wednesdays – no crowds. Monday night, Mona Lisa room was empty. Renaissance Galleries are unbelievable. Gallery of Rubens’s paintings of Marie De Medici and Henri IV was incredible (map labels the room as 17th Century Flemish Art) – I could go on for hours. Went to the Musee D’Orsay, Musee Delacroix, Musee L’Armee and Napoleon’s Tomb, Musee de Cluny, Musee Rodin, Notre Dame, Conciergerie, etc. Visited Versaille – a bit disappointed that the fountains were off, but we made a conscious decision to go on a weekday, and the fountains only work on Sundays.

elaine Jun 28th, 2002 10:55 AM

Russ<BR>nope, it's that deity thing that won't work at all this week. Otherwise I could call on Mithras or Thor.<BR><BR>

pam Jun 28th, 2002 11:12 AM

One week and counting to Paris,Beaune and Provence. <BR>I am sooo excited.<BR>

Mary Anne Cook Jun 28th, 2002 11:27 AM

Was in France the last 2 and a half weeks in May. First visit and even better in every way than I imagined. <BR>Enjoyed the 7th in the Relais Bosquet. Neat hotel with a beautiful view of the Eiffel Tower and the moon almost every night we were in Paris. Enjoyed the chateauxes-then to Avignon and last 3 days in Nice. To me the French Riviera is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. The museums, the cathedrals(Chartres so amazing), the rides through the country on the TGV, the people we met, and French pastries unforgettable.

Nothing so erotic, if true be known, just Giant, Fresh Fields, Safeway. We're just not all well travelled. Can I still post here?

russ Jun 28th, 2002 11:46 AM

Elaine,<BR><BR>Oh...I thought the problem was in singling out the Judeo-Christian god, as opposed to all supreme beings (supreme court not-included).<BR><BR>How about, "Thank (insert favorite actor or pop star here). Although we might her a lot more "Thank Brittney"'s than I would care to hear.

Linda Jun 28th, 2002 11:50 AM

Leave next Wednesday for Munich, Bavaria and Lake Geneva area. Can't wait.<BR><BR>Grasshopper, If you haven't left yet, have a great trip! Let me know which concerts you see at the Montreux Jazz Feastival. Linda

barbara Jun 28th, 2002 11:51 AM

We just got back on Sunday from 4 days in London and 4 days in Paris. This trip was a 13th birthday gift to my daughter from my mother-in-law, so it became a girl trip - mother-in-law, sister-in-law, my daughter and myself. A fabulous, magical adventure. It was my third trip to London, but my first to Paris...and I can't get back there soon enough. I am still overwhelmed by how beautiful Paris was...and how wonderful the art, the food, and the wine!

Elena Jun 28th, 2002 11:55 AM

We were at La Motte Picquet (2nd time) in March. Have great pictures of the poodle, but forgot to write down her name - help?? I'd like to get it right in my scrapbook. Thank you.

Capo Jun 28th, 2002 12:07 PM

We took a trip (in a sense) to the land of Oz this past Tuesday night, courtesy of these five fine musicians based in Adelaide...<BR><BR>http://www.fruit.on.net

My husband and I were in Las Vegas and Palm Desert for a long weekend for a wedding in April, were in Rome, Amalfi, Florence, Alsace, Normandy and Paris for 3 weeks in May, stayed at Hotel de Champs du Mars in the 7th. Loved the neighborhood, especially the wonderful crepe lady on the corner of Rue de Champs du Mars and Rue Cler! We are going to New Orleans for a long weekend in October and staying at La Maison Marigny. I always need to have a travel plan!!!

s.fowler Jun 28th, 2002 12:31 PM

The poodle's name is Maija or Maya or... -- and she is a love:) Of course I know Danielle [Mmme Pagnoux] as well as Mme Ireland. They refuse to speak English to me now that I have studied more French.

Brown I's Jun 28th, 2002 12:38 PM

Four days till we leave for Santa Fe! And I've got a jillion things to do.......<BR>

anne Jun 28th, 2002 01:31 PM

My last Europe trip was last summer to Germany. This summer - Northern Michigan.<BR>I am planning spring break already(can't help myself) to my first Caribean island - Curacao!!

Red Jun 28th, 2002 02:02 PM

Was in Paris and London in late May. Planning a trip to Las Vegas in August and the Monterey Jazz Festival in September. Next year the Italian Riviera - look out!

Lynne Jun 28th, 2002 02:08 PM

Came back June l8th after a month in<BR>France.<BR><BR>A week at the Relais Bosquet in the 7th<BR>doing all the museums then a drive down<BR>through the Loire to Avignon; three weeks in a rental house in Caromb and<BR>a quick trip to Catalunia then up the<BR>Autoroute du Soleil to Burgundy; Beaune<BR>and then Troyes. <BR><BR>Absolutely fell in love with Troyes!<BR><BR>Just booked some down time on the West<BR>Coast of Vancouver Island in October -<BR>'slightly' different than France!

Karen Jun 28th, 2002 02:52 PM

Lynne, did you shop at the outlets at Troyes? This has been on my "must do" list for a couple of years, but I've never made it out there. Please elaborate about what you liked about Troyes.<BR><BR>Friday? Standing here in the kitchen typing this reply while my husband quarters the chicken for tonight's dinner: chicken and dumplings. Son has had recent surgery and needs comfort food.<BR><BR>Have a nice weekend, all!

Lynne Jun 28th, 2002 05:12 PM

karen;<BR>We were there Sunday (closed) and <BR>Monday (open from 2:30) and we had<BR>to be in Paris. Got brochures from<BR>both outlets (they're on opposite ends<BR>of the town) and they both seemed to<BR>be specializing in American clothing<BR>outlets (CK,RL, Timberland, etc.) so<BR>I wasn't too upset to miss out (plus<BR>the temp. was 34!! - actually, too hot<BR>to shop!).<BR><BR>Troyes, Autun, Auxerre and Beaune are<BR>beautiful Burgundian towns with lots <BR>of late Medieval/early Renaissance <BR>buildings. The cathedral in Troyes<BR>still has l5C townhouses around it so<BR>it's possible to really get a 'feeling'<BR>for how it must have been. The main<BR>square is filled with sidewalk cafes<BR>and it is delightful to sit there on<BR>a hot (!) evening amongst the old <BR>buildings (and the new tourists!).<BR>It reminded me of York but more <BR>'natural'. (don't attack me, Yorkists!)<BR><BR>Troyes is actually in Aube not Burgundy.

what Jun 28th, 2002 07:52 PM

I left in '67 and have not returned yet.<BR>

Got back from a month in the south of spain about a month ago. I can't seem to re-enter. I feel so different. But isn't that why we travel.

Katie Jul 9th, 2002 10:31 AM

Vacations: ahh, the sweet anticipation!!! Came back from India in January (very different experience, not for those looking for bodily comfort!). Going to Barcelona/Costa Brava/Girona/Frankfurt/Duesseldorf trip over Labor Day. I am eagerly counting the days until the trip. Meanwhile, (as someone else said) can't help myself and planning my next, very first South Pacific adventure- Tahiti!!!! Any suggestions on that topic?<BR>Regards

Mike Jul 9th, 2002 11:21 AM

Spent two weeks in London and Paris in January. Went with 2 other couples. Stayed in the 7th. Third trip planning to go back in March 2003. Leaving for Amsterdam, Brussels in October. This trip we are being joined by 3 couples. One day we hope to have a bus load.

lisa Jul 9th, 2002 12:03 PM

Just back from Rocky Mountain National Park, Arches, Bryce Canyon, Zion, and Yosemite (posted report on US forum) -- outstanding trip, on the heels of Paris in May-June. Now working on Alaska for August, & Australia & New Zealand for November -- this is turning out to be a great year, travelwise!

Gina Jul 10th, 2002 07:26 AM

Made first trip to Europe for two weeks in May. Spent three days in Paris, TGV to Arles (with side trips to Avignon and San Remy), a day in the Cinque Terre, LONG train and ferry ride to Corfu, Greece, then back to Rome for a few days. Absolutely fell in love with Europe, and I too have to be planning a trip somewhere at all times! Have traveled extensively in the States, some in Canada, and also a previous trip to Ireland. Going to Vegas in September, and am trying to get some friends together for a trip in May back to the Cinque Terre. Have reoccuring dream of sitting at an outdoor cafe in Vernazza, with a chilled glass of the local wine, watching the sun set!
