Italy in April. No Reservations - worthwhile?
We're going to spend April in Northern Italy. A bit of XC skiing, maybe a train ride to Germany or Suisse for a few days luxe car hire on autobahns & mountain roads at silly speeds, then back to [pre booked] Lake Como to recover.
Can't help thinking we can't possibly forecast of the beaut things we will see when we get there - and want to explore for a day or two - so who has done a few weeks without hotel reservations - does it work? Or is it the joy or flexibility less than the luxury of laziness? Your first hand experiences appreciated. |
We like the freedom of no reservations. Never been to those areas in April, so hope other postings give you more info, BUT....we were in all of those places a few years ago in early June with no reservations, and had no problem (well, slight problem at Cinque Terre on the weekend finding room)

I'm not a skier, but I rather doubt that you can go cross-country skiing in April in northern Italy - the snow, I think, will have turned to mud by then.
Check it out on a Web site devoted to skiing. |
I agree, I don't believe there will be snow. We were there April 2005, no snow and high 50s/low 60s.
We also had hotel reservations in every stop. They were much needed. |
