Italy Eateries...

Can some people give me some good ideas where to eat while in Rome. I'm not talking 5-Star gourmet meals but nothing too cheap either. I want to know some good places for a nice dinner and some of those places that people find and love even though they just "fell" on to that place. Thanks

Just north of Borghese park--we had a great time and excellent meal here.

I second Ambasciata di Abruzzo. We had a great meal at a reasonable price, and the place was filled with locals.

My travelogue at http://www.straughan.com/italy/travel/rome.htm mentions (with addresses) a number of restaurants all over Rome.

Ambasciata di Abruzzo-I had a memorable dinner there 27 years ago, and this March another outstanding meal. Try the tasting menu. You will not be disappointed.

Your post has allowed me to mention a restaurant that I left out of my recent trip report - that is, Maccheroni, located in the Piazza delle Copelle (for us, an easy walk from the Pantheon area). A shop owner nearby told us to go there.

A long-time butcher shop was converted into what has become a somewhat hip trattoria, due to the youthfulness of the three owners and their wait staff; and supposed celeb sightings. But don't hold this against them. As the name implies, the pasta is their strong suit, although everything we had was great. It's a popular place so reservations are a must.

We had a wonderful meal at Papa Baccus(www.papabaccus.com) - house made salami (the pork is from pigs they raise themselves) followed by bisteca fiorentina with amazing olive oil. The wine list was good too, and you can sit outside if the weather is nice.

For me one of the best restaurants in Rome is Myosotis in Vicolo della Vaccarella, close to Piazza Navona. The food is exquisite and the choice of wines is extraordinary. The proces are not too cheap (40/50 euro)
