Is anyone else bored?
Seems like no one of interest either posts or answers....it's days between posts on this forum now. nO interesting topics, no humor, no sarcasm, no good info, just drivel, drivel, drivel. Anyone else but me think this. have posted queries and not but one or two anemic answers. I am getting tired...answers to my travel questions are not here...too few bother anymore. Anyone?
drivel, drivel, drivel

There, now that is out of the way..........

Air travel is down, the economy is in the toilet....

I expect general enthusiasm is down.

We may not be going over this year either, but my 'nip is kicking in.
No I'm not bored. I'm well aware that this post is just bait but I'm in the mood to bite. Just did a quick check - there were over 225 posts in the past 24 hours alone. Quick glance leads me to think that were at least a dozen that received no answer. With the "top 50" moving off the front page four times in a day.... it's not surprising that some dont' get answered right away. Even board regulars don't always have a chance to check posts more than once a day at best and many people never look past the first 50. If I post and don't get an answer I bring it to the top for myself.

Owen. You are a regular statistician! You could write a book about the Fodor's board.
Aurelia. It is really boring, all right. Partly, it's this censorship/registration stuff, I think. While it's nice not to have to read the hateful stuff, it's not as much fun to check the board and see what's cookin'. Maybe some of the readership is down. This is for Owen to determine, with a survey of posts a year ago.
Icithecat, Glad your cat nip is kicking in.
As for me, I'm sittin' around waiting for our hot water heater to kick in, as my son used all the water for his lengthy shower. So, I'm bored checkin' the board, too.
I'm no statistician but surveys show that 3/4 of the people make up 75% of the population {;-)

Actually.... I'm bored as h*ll - stuck for the night in a Minneapolis airport hotel!

I have only recently begun to frequent the Europe board as I plan for my first Ireland trip, thus I'm in no position to comment on changes in posting volume.

I have been a regular in the US forum for quite some time. If one subtracts the large volume of inane drivel that was completely and totally non-travel related and all the troll posts.... I think current posting level on the US board is about where it was a year ago or higher.

Yes I like registration. I was 100% in support of the concept and I've been happy with the results now that the transition is more or less over.

Well hi, Owen. Where are you off to? Did it snow in Minneapolis today?

Drivel, drivel, drivel? I HATE it when all those basketball players start posting!
Aurelia,

Could it be that the people who are posting notes, actually want it information and don't need this board as a way of socializing?

And frankly, I could see that you would be bored if you depend on a bulletin board for your social life.
Ooooh that cut!

US
The hot water has returned. I'm off. Good night, all my fellow bored boarders. And Lyb. Goodnight to you, too.
If you live in the Northeast there is one more reason to feel low- weather! snow, sleet, rain- where's the sun? Our long awaited trip to Europe departs next Thurs- should be a cure for the blues.
I'm excited about my trip! Woohoo! Five more weeks to go!
Between planning a spring break trip to Sicily, and a 2 month trip this summer, nope not bored :)
So Owen why didn't you leave your hotel room and traipse over to the Mall of American for a ride on the Camp Snoopy ferris wheel or something?
I have found that when the weather is this icky out and things are kind of boring everywhere, I plan a trip!
I just got back from one and it really makes me cheerful to read all about a new place, look at photos of places I want to visit, even if it is months away.
Like last night~it is sleeting, raining, miserable out, I sat here and planned more of our trip to warm, sunny Mexico. Keeps my enthusiasm up, otherwise the Pup and I would sleep 24 hours a day!!
Owen, the picture of you (a young man from NY ?) riding on a Snoopy ferris wheel really made my morning:)
Nope, not bored. There is great info on this board if you are patient enough to search for it. And I still post here (obviously), even though my trip to England was 3 months ago and my next trip sometime in 2004 will likely be Costa Rica (so now I also read the Latin America board). :)

Happy travels to those of you leaving soon! I am envious! (It's April in DC, and its' 40 degrees and raining. Ugly stuff - I should be in shorts by now...)

Karen
I agree that since registration there have been fewer troll postings and such, I did however enjoy reading some of them!
I still visit the board regulary and post/ask questions/read - even though it might be less colourful than before there is great information here that you could never get from a guidebook or travel agent. I value the opinion of other travellers more than I would trust other sources.

Scarlett:

Are you the person who was in Paris w/ PUP (I noticed you mentioned him in your post). If so, whatever happened to him. Wasn't he chasing the lady in the red dress, if I remember correctly, the last we knew??? :-)
You're right Capo! Who's holding court?
Earl, I think. :)
EC -

PUP who Scarlett is referring to is her black Standard Poodle who she loves so dearly
Lol, too bad Pup has such a hard time typing, paws you know, he would be thrilled to reply:)
Yes, Pup was the Pup in Paris, nothing he likes better than sitting at the cafe, watching the people. Lol, and he is chocolate Brown~
That was a funny thread! We need to get something like that going again so aurelia and others don't get bored. There used to be a number of funny posts that people kept going, but I don't know what happened to those posters w/ that great sense of humor like Elvira, for one.

Whatever happened to Betty & Billy?

Oh, for the good old days on the Forum! I remember one post especially that had me crying it was SOOOO funny - of course, I forget what it was about.
EC, it must've been "tipping the pilot".
Scarlett, Did you really take Pup to Paris or are you pulling our legs?
Scarlett - I guess my age is giving me away. I think I've become a little color blind. I could have sworn he was black. Please give my apologizes and a big hug to PUP.

Faina: THAT was a funny one, but actually it is coming back to me. It was the one composed of all the silly (I use that word loosely as I'm sure MY first posts were silly too) questions that neophytes to the European Forum ask. For example, I have 2 hrs. between connecting flts. in London. Will I have time to go into the city and see such sights as Big Ben and Westminster Abbey? Or, I have a 2 wk. vacation and I've always wanted to see Stockholm, London, Paris, Zurich, Florence, Rome and the Amalfi coast. Do you think I can fit everything in or should I leave out one of those places? :-)

That thread was titled something like Can you walk to London from Paris..I think that is where Pup first "spoke" of walking in Paris and London and wishing to know if they would be as nice to him in Italy.
Pup likes to be seen with girls in red dresses. Or at least one girl:) He has not worn a beret but loves his bandana. I have a photo of him in front of the Eiffel Tower, alas, that Eiffel Tower is a clock we got as a gift that sits on the sideboard in the kitchen.
Pup has grand ideas, but so far, NYC is still his stomping grounds and Paris is still a Pups dream, since he does not care to fly without me by his side.
So ~yes~ Pup and I were pulling your legs:)
Madison, thank you:)
Yes, Scarlett, that also was a very funny thread about PUP and his "adventures" in Paris, but the one that had me hysterically laughing was probably on this site ABOUT 2 1/2 yrs. ago.
Scarlet, do you remember, you took your pup to Paris after I took my monkey, keeza to the cote d'ázur? We were wild then.
Vita where are you going this time? I just returned from my 2nd trip to Rome (twice in one month), but was over there when they switched over to daylight savings time while on a very short trip. My body has absolutely NO idea what time it is! Anyway, I'm a little depressed, because I've no idea when my next trip will be! (Probably not prior to September.)

Scarlett, hi, please give Pup a scratch behind the ears for me.

BC
BC,
Pup sends his love. Wants to know about the pups in Italy. Heard they know how to use cell phones while they ride on their owners Vespas!
Why would a 'PUP' have an owner?

Would that not be more of a command unit?

As in I command you to feed me now. Or. I comand you to take me for a walk now ,or I will wee/wee on your sofa?
I'm going to Spain, bookchick - staying in Madrid, Seville, and Granada. Sounds like a perfect time to start thinking about your next trip. :)
icithecat - That's what my house is like with my 2 cats! I am not their owner, but their servant. Luckily, they reward me handsomely with lots of love - they sleep with me at night, sit with me while watching TV, follow me around everywhere, clamor for attention, and love to be pet and played with. I am a sucker for their ability to be totally adorable.
Vita, how cool! I hope you have a great time, it sounds wonderful!

Scarlett, yes, indeed the pups of Italy definitely live the life of Riley, eating well, and being walked in Piazza Navona and throughout the Parco Borghese is certainly my idea of living!

BC
Lol, icithecat, that is sooo correct!

BC, then I should wish to come back as a Pup in Italy:)
