This thread is over 48 hours old, and I have "been away so long" that I haven't seen it until now (wink).

I am addicted to citing how many threads over the past several years have dealt with this subject.

There's addicted, and then there's CHRONICALLY addicted. Approaching four years, and close to 7000 posts...

Best wishes,

Rex

posting from Malibu: Marilyn, I'll be out again October 17-20, maybe extended, if you have a SF get-together ... I'll be in LA, but might be able to easily come up for one day. Oh, for those of you who thrive on trip reports, may I say the morning seems very cool indeed, but coffee on the beach isn't a bad way to start the day. Nobu last night (Cross Creek Rd., just off the PCH), was nice as usual. Ferrari city! The well off really flock down from the canyons just east of the beach. Today, the veranda of the Bel Air Hotel on the canyon road, just off Sunset Blvd., an easy exit off the PCH. Tonight, not sure ... maybe the Reel Inn, for those of you into seafood at a causal pace. You pick your own, hopefully something not too glazed and without that stare. I'm never sure I actually end up with my choice. The finished products all look the same. Anyway, have a good one, time for another cuppa.

I am not addicted.....I could quit anytime I wanted.

And if you believe that, I have a bridge for sale.

sandi_travelnut Aug 25th, 2003 05:34 AM

Addicted since 1999 and proud of it.

Calamari Aug 25th, 2003 08:15 AM

PCHsmiles-

I was in Malibu visiting my parents over the weekend. Did not know that there was a Nobu at Cross Creek. Do you mean that smelly little sushi place next to the Cantina Mexican place??? Malibu is still void of any good food. I think Granita and Koogies are both bad. If it wasn't for the Malibu Mutt I would have starved as kid growing up on the beach!

Cherie Aug 25th, 2003 08:27 AM

Wow! I can't get over how many Fodorites we have in the San Francisco area! I'm in Alamo (in the East Bay) and would LOVE to do a get-together. Any place and any time but September 9-19 -- we'll be in Paris then. So if it's after that, maybe I'll have a lot more to talk about!

PCHsmiles Aug 25th, 2003 08:34 AM

... Nobu is located at 3835 Cross Creek Rd., one block off PCH. Telephone 310-317-9140. So, you see - new information. The sushi was very nice indeed - very upscale crowd. Not sure what place you have in mind. It's up the street from Wolfgang Puck's Granita, if you're aware of that restautant's location. And near a nifty Italian we're at tonight - Allegria, at 22821 PCH - 310-456-3132. Now I must get off the hotel's computer for a while so they can do some business. And we're headed for the Bel Air Hotel, and that takes 20-25 minutes. Have a good one - I know we will!!

Re: And if you believe that, I have a bridge for sale.

If it's a huge suspension bridge and you can give them a nice discount, the Italian government might be interested. :)

The latest National Geographic has an article about what will become the world's longest suspension bridge, by far, spanning the Strait of Messina.

... hey, Calamari, enough mooching off the parents. Take 'em out to dinner soon - why not the Reel Inn - sounds like your kind of place. Oh, there's also a Subway, in the shopping center with Granita. Immediate parking right there in front. Are you driving or on foot?

MarthaT Aug 25th, 2003 08:40 AM

I know I'm addicted because I am not really planning a trip right now but have to hear about everyone elses.
I have also been addicted since 1999

marymac Aug 25th, 2003 08:59 AM

ran accross this board while researching my upcoming trip to Italy. Now must check it daily, I lurk a lot. Ahh but I have learned so much grasshopper. Have my Scavi reservations as well as Scala Reale. Thnks to all!

Marilyn Aug 25th, 2003 08:59 AM

OK, SF area fodorites, I will post a new thread sometime later this week in an attempt to start the ball rolling for a get together. Meanwhile, any of you who are interested, please send your email address along with your fodors name and your real name to my hotmail address so we can do the organizing directly, off the fodors site. Oooooo, fun!! :-D

FainaAgain Aug 25th, 2003 09:11 AM

Marylin, maybe you can start 2 posts - 1 here and 1 on USA website?

Marilyn Aug 25th, 2003 01:49 PM

Will do, Faina. I was thinking the same thing. I may actually post it on Asia as well, since I go on that forum often.

Meanwhile, I have already heard from 2 of you directly -- terrific! I need a little time to plan this post for maximum efficiency, but I'll get to it later this week.

I'm in the midst of buying a new car -- giving up my Mercedes for a Honda Civic Hybrid! I'll be the one driving past you all at the gas station. It gets about 50 mpg.

JandaO Aug 25th, 2003 01:55 PM

I am 100% hooked to this site :)

Koshka Aug 25th, 2003 03:23 PM

Marilyn,

I plan to contact you personally, and I think it's great you are taking the initiative to "lead the way."

A suggestion, tho, just in case...

Perhaps if nobody steps up to open their home to strangers (I know *I* wouldn't, even to Fodorites) perhaps we can meet up at a restaurant?

Marilyn Aug 25th, 2003 03:35 PM

Great Koshka, exactly what I was thinking. I would like to get an idea of where everyone will be coming from to see if SF is the most central location. Also, how many of us, and what date suits the largest number of people. I assume if I get this started everyone will jump on the "thread" in true fodors style and I won't get stuck with all the work!

Calamari Aug 25th, 2003 05:44 PM

Hi PCHSMiles -

Sorry to say that I am not mooching off of the parents, but supporting them. My mooching days are long gone...sadly. The Reel Inn does sound like my kind of place. It is not in Paradise Cove though is it? WHere in Malibu is it? Regarding "Subway" I would not go near one of those places with a 10 foot baugette. The homestead is on Broad Beach Rd. so anything south of the colony is too far for the folks.

pchsmiles Aug 26th, 2003 05:34 AM

Hi, Calamari - I was sort of kidding you! Actually we stopped in at Subway by Granita and had a Philly cheese steak, CA version. Not bad - but we were getting it to go so we could head east and explore some canyons. Like you, we normally avoid such places. I don't have the exact address for Reel Inn, but I can give you an approx. location. We stay on PCH at about 27500, just east of Surfrider Beach. When I head to LA, the Reel Inn is on the left hand side, I believe before Topanga Canyon, and certainly before Sunset Blvd. It is a real local dive, but lots of fun. And the food is not bad at all. You have to watch for it carefully - it right on PCH. Let me know how you like it. One to skip - Moonshadows on PCH - expensive and second rate. Decent italian on PCH - Allegria - about 27,700. We are yawning today - red eye once again, and I don't care how many times I do it, it's still wearing. We'll be out again in mid October, partly on business, so if you find any other decent places to eat, do let me know. Thanks.
