I'm totally addicted too -- I can't tell you how many times I've had to do a quick "minimize" so my boss doesn't see.
I started by looking for information for an upcoming trip to Paris. The trip is in three weeks (I promise to do a trip report) but I guarantee I'll still be checking daily even after the trip. The advice has been wonderful -- spot-on and often funny. You folks are great. P.S. I'm a northern California gal too! |
We can get our frustrated DH's or signifcant other's to bring us to a Fodorite Intervention (singles not to be left out), then we can all enjoy the convention! They really would faint if I said I wanted to travel to meet these "strangers" in person.
I tell them that they should read too. What a great supplement to at least our educations anyway. I have learned more about art and history than in school. I'm sorry to say, that my highest education was two years of college, and even then I knew nothing about art and little about anyone's history nor was I inspired to want to. Your comments intrigue me to research things you mention seeing. I am grateful that you mention it, and it's my job to figure out it's significance. I LOVE learning about it. In a debate about whether kids should miss school due to travel, one poster (an educator or attendance clerk, I think it was) said, "Don't let school get in the way of education." I think it should be excused absence within reason. I once let my kids miss a few days due to travel only is they assured me they would not let thier school work fall. Much later I learned my son got some 0's because he never asked for his work. The teacher left the responsibility up to him and let him be accountable. I hated it, but what a great lesson. Oops! Sorry, I am way off the subject of the original post. |
I haven't posted much, but I read constantly! But, can anyone tell me, are trolls exactly what they sound like, and what on earth is DH short for?
|
... yes, Marilyn, in SF, but only for a while. Then, you know, PHC, and Malibu, at Surfrider Beach, on the beach. Someone said I never travel. I wrote this cute rejoinder, then the Fodor system ate it all up and characterized it as indigestible. I post from atop the hill, if you know the Ritz. The walk up earlier, after much wine and much fun talk, was ... shall we say, virtual. Cochon_Damne would appreciate that.

Addicted? No, I'm not! I am here only Mon-Fri, not every day! And I can quit any time, just don't want to! And I am not in denial!
|
DH = Dear Husband. And, those who let us surf this board half the night are, indeed, dear husbands.
|
And here I thought it stood for Dusseldorf Hauptbahnhof. :)

hi
My name is Lewis and I'm a ...... :d |
My DH, who is an avid baseball fan, thought it was Designated Hitter...

... Faina, may I laugh? Giggles galore, thanks.

Guilty as charged.

I am totally addicted. And now that I have dsl at home I am REALLY hopeless! At least tying up the phone lines was a deterrent.
|
Welcome to my World!!!!Sometimes I wonder what the day would be without reading Fodors' funny, interestings, educationals POSTS?
|
Oh yes . . . I have mentioned on many a thread what a Fodors addict I am. I am so addicted that I keep thinking, rather wistfully, "Gee, I'm really going to miss the Fodor's board while I'm in Europe next month!" I mean, I'll actually BE IN EUROPE and I'm worried about not getting my Fodor's fix.
That's sick . . . Jennie :) |
It would be overstating the obvious to tell you if I am!
|
Just wait until you are IN Europe, go to an internet cafe for emails and just check in on Fodors for a quick peek and end up staying on waaay too long, then you know you are really addicted.
This is what I did in Sorrento earlier this year. |
My DW ?? (Dear wife I guess) has also gone to bed.
She gives up on me ! When I got the internet years ago I never ever imagined there was a forum that I would base my travels on !! Off to Tokyo, Australia and Singapore from Wales in 110 days with 2 teenagers ...oh my god will fodors pull me through !!! Muck |
The true test of addiction is when you check in daily even when you are not planning a trip. I have been watching the transition of addicts over the past six years or more and it seems to be contagious. I am not aware of a antidote--- once an avid Europhile.

I actually did a focus group here in San Francisco for Fodor's market research when fodors.com was in the planning stages.
They were right; travellers love to talk and share. I sort of come and go depending on whether we are planning a trip, but I always return and am always happy to be a small part of such a cool and knowledgeable group. |
Yes! Yes! Let's do a SF int...er....convention, ie Get Together. A bunch of us did that a few years ago and it was great fun. We met at a hospitable Fodorite's beautiful apartment in SF and walked to a local Italian restaurant. Decided that maybe a potluck at someone's home might be more conducive to good conversation. It's hard to mingle at a restaurant. Anyone want to step up to the plate (figuratively)? DH and I will come, I'm sure Kal (from the US board--lives in Sacramento) and DW will come and probably bunches of others. Shall I start a new thread to check for interest?
