Hey Ira,
I just joined this forum and you seem to be an expert. You really should try these iJourneys.com walking tours. we're pretty experience travelers and my husband and I love them. They cover Paris and Austria -- but not Germany. I really recommend them for a unique experience. start with Vienna if that's where you're going. You visit a church painted by Hitler, visit underground toilets designed by the great Adolf Loos and watch cakes being made at one of the fanciest cafes in town. You learn cool stuff and it's only $15. so you can't go wrong. You can download now before you get on the plane! Although it's touristy -- locas go too -- to Griechenbeisl. A very cool old traditional restaurant in the city center next to the Greek Church, it's in a building dating from 1450 -- and still has turkish cannonballs stuk in the walls. All the neat people who have eaten there signed the ceiling by everyone from Schubert to Mark Twain to Phil Collins. Def a place to go surrounded by ladies in proper tweed suits eating wienerschnitzel. have a fab, fab trip. |

Have the time of your life honey. I can't wait to read your post when you get home. Maybe we'll hear from you during the trip. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Oh yeah, eat something good for me Please. Theresa in Detroit. |
Ira:
"Worldtalkers" suggestion of Griechen Beisl (on FleischMarkt)very near to St. Stephens...it is a 16th century charmer. Try it...it's wall speak. I have sent several people there..and have been there twice also. Hearty Austrian offerings. Also, I'll mention the famous NaschMart for dozens of stalls presenting a great variety of Austrian delicacies. I'm sure in your researh you've found all these...but no harm in this kind of redundancy. Stu T. |
Ira is leaving...Degas is back!
I missed the return-when and from where? Have a great trip Ira. |
Have fun and yeah, do try to get some good food this time. Hope the museum is open!
|
Have a wonderful trip, Ira! :)
|
I hope you and Roberta have a wonderful trip! We return from our Germany/Austria/Italy jaunt in mid-June. Hopefully (shameless begging I know), I'll be able to read your trip report by then? ;-)
|
Be sure and dine on delicious spargel in Bavaria.
Have an interesting journey. Jinx Hoover |
Have a wonderful trip. Hy husband and I leave next week so I won't read your report till the end of June. That's a shame since we too are going to France and Germany and I would have loved to have read it before we left for some good ideas and advice. Safe travels, Miriam.
|
Ira, I am counting the days to read your reports. I found fodor's forum through your report when you took your mother to Paris. I love your style and your kind responses to the ones who seeks advices.
|
Bon Voyage! And don't worry, we'll tell you how wrong your itinerary was after reading your report :))
