Great report, Ira. Thank you!

I trust your appetite for the SW of France has been properly whetted:)

SuzieC Oct 11th, 2005 11:38 AM

Yep, I've printed this out. I have the trip with you parents; the italy trip and now this, if for no other reason to re-read about the food and wines! Our wine preferences are closely aligned.
1 lb. lighter! Isn't that just a wonderful thing!?
Thank you Ira and through you Roberta...
SO? Where to next? huh? Huh?

Byrd Oct 11th, 2005 01:29 PM

Thank you, Ira.

How delightful to have your report to enjoy just before we leave for Paris (tomorrow!).

Again, merci.

IRA:

What a delightful read! Most trip reports can't carry off the fine details, but yours was...."mouth watering" is what comes to mind!

I just wrote to Mme Dumas yesterday. It will be interesting to see if her son replies in the same form she used to.

It's obvious you took copious notes throughout your trip. The effort paid off in one of the most enjoyable trip reports I've ever seen here.

Thanks all, for the kind words.

Have a great visit, Byrd.

Yes, StCirq - our appetites were well whetted.

Hi ira,
I've been chained to my desk (tax season) since late August so I just opened Fodors for the first time in weeks. I was so pleased to see your report and then I just couldn't stop reading. A wonderful trip report and the food descriptions... oh the food desciptions...! I think you have outdone even your fabulous Italy trip report! So happy you had a good trip and a very belated Welcome Back!

Thank you, Ira, for this delightful report. I shall miss tuning in for new episodes. Forgive my saying "tuning in" - I'm having a senior moment and can't remember what's the equivalent for the internet!

Betsy Oct 12th, 2005 07:17 PM

Oh my! I vicariously consumed so many calories reading your trip report that I can hardly arise from the chair. But, it was worth every single one. I'd like to replicate your trip!

ira Oct 13th, 2005 05:18 AM

Thanks for the kind words, folks.

Hi Betsy,

I have 5 maps and two guide books that I can part with for a reasonable sum. :)

ira,

What a joy to read your report. I, too, appreciated the food/wine details. Thanks.

On a side note, I noticed you seemed to be
taking notice of real estate prices...?

Hi bardo,

Thanks for the kind words.

>...I noticed you seemed to be
taking notice of real estate prices...?

We are not moving. I thought it would be helpful for those who have dreams of retiring to Europe.

Great photo album!
What is the archway with the gilded clock (close to the end)?

Iregeo Oct 16th, 2005 05:00 PM

Ira, the photos, and your lady wife, are just beautiful. Thank you for sharing.

cigalechanta Oct 16th, 2005 05:06 PM

Lovely photos, Ira, that brought back memories of so many trips. God is telling me the Dordogne is not for me, the several times I have been there it was raining or damp.

cobbie Oct 16th, 2005 05:07 PM

Oh Ira your photos are wonderful! It reminded me why I really want to live in France.

Hi Jeanne,

Forgot to add the titles for the last batch. (I've corrected that.)

It's the clock tower in Auxerre.

Hi Cigal,

Keep trying.

We were very lucky. The week before we went South from Bordeaux they were having heavy rains.

After we left, it began raining in Bordeaux.

Those are lovely photos; they beckon me to that part of France, which I've only dipped into briefly, and then peripherally. (Castelnou, which is in the general vicinity, I believe?)

It must have been a wonderful trip; cheers to you!

Lovely pictures, thanks for sending me back to France for a few minutes.
