Just checking the forum tonight and was surprised to see that several replies to my posting had come in over the last few days. I had taken Ira's advice and contacted Renato. He actually gave me a better price. I then asked Francesco if he would match it and happily he did just that. We have also decided to make a 3 hour stop at Pompei on the way to Positano. I actually justified the whole idea of this outrageous splurge with the fact that stopping on the way will mean we won't have to backtrack another day to visit that sight. I must say I have been quite impressed with Francesco's friendly, professional responses to my many enquiries and am looking forward to meeting him in May. Thanks to all once again. Now on to figuring out Capri.

I'm glad you worked out a good deal with Francesco - he was delightful and arranged for a great tour guide for us at Pompeii (only licensed guides can work the site, not the drivers you engage), Enzo. You can check out our feelings about Enzo on our trip report: fodors.com/forums/threadselect.jsp?screen_name=knoxvillecouple&f id=2 Capri is a wonderful place as well. Have fun figuring out what to do/where to stay etc. If at all possible do spend a night there so you can get a feel for what the place is like after the last ferry leaves the island - it's different and magical. We used Salvatore Lucibello of DriveAmalfi on our wonderful trip to Positano and recommend him without hesitation.Salvatore can be reached at [email protected]
