Ira and anyone...Help with limo driver from Rome to Positano

In a previous, but somewhat dated post a Francesco Marrapese,a limo driver based in the Amalfi Coast area was suggested. He has given us what I think is a decent price for a Rome to Positano transfer. Has anyone had any recent excursions with him? Would he be considered reliable? And also, what would be considered a fair price for that particular transfer?

minx Feb 3rd, 2006 07:55 PM

obviously not an engaging topic...Nevertheless I would love a reponse...Hello..out there!Help!

marilee12 Feb 3rd, 2006 08:38 PM

I would love to know the answer....We are going to do the same thing. Either get a driver, or take a ferry or train to sorrento and then have our hotel pick up us. Good luck! Marilee

Hi minx:

Please type into the search box,
Italy Limo Drivers. I just did and read
the post.

Do read the posts to interpret the feedback on your topic.

The website ([email protected]) appears to be an Italy based driver, but if I read correctly he owns a taxi.

Repost in the morning by clicking on your name, then click at the bottom "jump to the top", abbreviated on the forum as 'TTT'.

My experience has only been through(Alitaliatours.com) but back in Oct'2000. I also didn't know about Fodorville when I was planning.

Anyway, We hired a driver from Naples to Sorrento with the driver selected by the company. Our experience was professional, inexpensive and efficient.

Regards,

Put his name in the search, seems like I recently read someone using his service. I know alot of people have in the past year, so go ahead and book him.

Re Limo, most of the drivers use regular cars or mini vans, sometimes a mercedes but don't drive actual limos!

What price did he offer you?

SeaUrchin Feb 3rd, 2006 09:56 PM

PS: you probably aren't getting many answers because you specifically put Ira in your title.

bellastarr Feb 3rd, 2006 11:28 PM

LLOLL seaurchin- good point.

minx, I don' believe ira has any direct experience on this one, but you can search for "Marrapese" here and any personal reviews will come up so you can read them for yourself. He started his own business this past year, and has received high praise so far-
The only reliable way to compare current prices for this transfer is to contact the various drivers directly.
There are lists of them recommended and easy to find on this forum.
If I were using a private driver for a transfer from Rome, I would go ahead and book Francesco Marrapese.

Hi M,

Francesco is a very personable person who used to post here when he first started his business.

He has received several good reviews on this forum. I haven't seen any negative ones.

We were pleased with Limousine Service Sorrento (Renato Cuomo)
www.cuomonet.it

Compare prices and vehicles.

Have a nice visit.

Thankyou everyone....just the feedback I had hoped to receive. Guess I didn't research on the Forum quite enough before I asked. If charm counts in anyway, Francesco is a real winner. His e.mail responses to my many inquiries have been friendly and informative. And Sea Urchin, the price is 350E from our Hotel in Rome to the Poseidon in Positano.I really think it's a good price but am having problems justifying the increased amount (about 150-170E more)than if we do the Taxi to train,ES to Naples and THEN the limo to Positano. But what price luxury right?I have to make this decision by Monday. How about you Marilee? And thankyou Ira. I will also contact Renato Cuomo for an estimate.

SeaUrchin Feb 4th, 2006 08:05 AM

minx, I don't usually open queries posted to another person. This price is excellent, grab it.

MInx,

Don't think twice about justifying the little extra to have a door to door transfer from rome to Positano - avoiding the naples train station and city are well worth it, especially considering how much a good con artist/theif could rip you off for while there!

My grandfather used to say "in Naples they'll steal your socks without even touching your shoes"...probably an exaggeration but I've been several times and always say a little prayer that nothing terrible will happen.

Buon Viaggio!

You are welcome, M.

We are using Francesco to go from Sorrento to Rome in April - all contacts with him so far have been great.

We might also be using him for a tour of the Amalfi Coast - I am debating between that or a trip to Capri on April 15th.

It is very easy to take a train from Rome to Naples and have Francesco pick you up. He will be waiting right there as you get off of your train. Then he wisks you to Posiano. His service is great.

Minx - I'm one of those who has sung Francesco's praises (in my trip report among other postings). In contrast to you, however, we took the train from Orvieto to Naples and used Francesco (or one of his "colleagues") from there. Francesco was already engaged and couldn't take us from Naples train station to our hotel in Positano (La Tartana) but did arrange for another driver - in a Mercedes van at a cost of 110 Euros as I recall. We did use Francesco for an Amalfi Coast/Pompeii all day tour while we were there, and he was dependable, delightful and funny (and my wife liked his charm). We are using him again in June for a repeat of that trip when we hit Naples on a cruise - in other words, he's VERY good.

email me if you have any questions ([email protected]).

I have used the same limo service for my boss on both of his trips through Italy. He really loves the company and has even requested the same driver for both times. When looking for limo services the first time, Gemini came in with the best prices. Here is the company's contact information:

I read another site and someone had shared that they had taken the train to sorrento and then took the bus to their hotel. I am considering doing this, we may have to change trains in Naples, but will have the hotel pick us up. This might be one option. I think it is only around 40 km to our hotel from sorrento. I agree that it is very expensive to have a driver...and I am still worried about the drive along that cliff!

SeaUrchin Feb 7th, 2006 10:25 PM

marilee, how about riding the Harley down there? Might be fun.

ira Feb 8th, 2006 04:52 AM

Hi marilee,

>I think it is only around 40 km to our hotel from sorrento.<

Where are you staying?

((I))

marilee12 Feb 8th, 2006 05:42 PM

We are staying at covo dei saraceni....it is a hotel that is right on the water. My husband doesn't do well with extended walking (bad feed) so we thought staying at a place where we had limited hiking around would be beneficial and we can access the water taxi outside the door. And, to the comment above you.....NO HARLEY! After three accidents (not my fault.) I am a nervous back seat driver! THANKS Marilee
