Inexpensive Paris hotel
 

Okay, I'm going to buy the plane tickets today. So now it's time to do some serious work on hotels. I've read through some of the threads here. And I've checked out the web sites of a few places. I've even e-mailed the Hotel du College de France.

But, before I make any definite decisions, I have to ask one question. Is it totally unrealistic to hope that I might find something convenient, clean, relatively quiet with a private bath for less than $100 per night (or even up to say, 80 Euro) for my daughter and I during the week the last week of March?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: <b>value in lodging increases the further you get from the city center</b>.

I don't mind riding the train for 15 minutes to reach the Latin Quarter, so I stay in the hotel-alixia.com in Antony for &euro;69 weekends. They're showing a double on the 19th for 7 nights available for &euro;667. That's a little more than you quoted, but you get so much more than downtown.

cute little 3* the Hotel Monceau Wagram for 75 DOLLARS per night in October but then its up in the 17th, not the center of town. But I love to walk in Paris and wanted to start my &quot;stay around all parts of the city so that some day when my ship comes in, I'll know which neighborhood to buy in&quot; time. HAHAHAHA...what a dreamer!

We stopped by that hotel while searching for lodging for friends but they did not have a room empty that we could see. Our impression was that it's a really nice place and very convenient, with the No. 1 line of the Mtro nearby. How was it?

Forgive my ignorance, but what arrondisement (spelling?) is it in?

As much as I like staying right in the thick of things, since we're staying 4 nights, saving 30 Euro a night will really make a difference. And we don't intend to spend much time in the room anyway.

It is in the 12th. I stayed at Hotel Porte de la Doree last time. It is in the 12th also. It was rated very high in TA forum (out of 1,600 hotels). I might look at Coco's rec. since it is cheaper. I like to stay out of the busy area.

I got a rate for the Mercure Monty for 75 Euros per night for my daughter and me - it might not be available for your dates. But take a look at the Mercure La Fayette around the corner. We found this area very convenient. Take a look at http://www.accorhotels.com .

Also take a look at the Best Western site - they often have good deals.

The Hotel Cosmos in the 11th is often mentioned favorably.

Hotel Monge, as already recommended above, it's in the 5th/Latin Quarter.

But Hotel Monge is more like 105 Euros, rather than less than 80.

I stayed at Hotel Victor Masse. It's right by the Sacre Coeur and the Place du Tertre, so it's definitely not far from the other sites. It's pretty small and quaint... very traditional. I think I paid about $80 a night.

At this late date, also take a look at http://www.laterooms.com .

I stayed at both Hotel de la Porte Doree and Residence Les Gobelines and thought they were both good.

I was just browsing a website's air + hotel offerings today and thought--what an interesting way to get hotel names and references. They are in all price ranges with rates ( when you click on their website), map, etc. There are LONG lists of them.

Just got a very nice response back from Hotel du College de France. Unfortunately, they're booked. This is starting to make me nervous!

It was just Expedia or Travelocity--or any airline site. Go on it and look up their air + hotel quote. They will give a jillion of them, using different hotels. You can get some idea about some hotels and then maybe ask here, or on TripAdvisor, etc. Just seems like an idea to get some other names of places.

That would be their packages quotes.

The same hotels used in packages can often be booked for relatively cheap rates through consolidators like the following:
