I'm still confused about liquids in luggage...
 

I've searched this site as well as a couple of web sites and have found much conflicting info. What CAN NOT be carried in carry-on and what CAN be packed in checked baggage...know of an accurate website? For instance, I like having a bottle of witch hazel on a trip, soothes the skin and tired feet...it is basically alcohol...allowable in checked luggage?

You can take liquids in your checked luggage. It's the hand luggage that's regulated. That said I don't want to take a risk of putting wine bottles in my checked luggage.

For hand luggage, in Eueope at least, you cannot take liquids, creams, tooth paste sorts, if each item is more than 100ml + if the total exceeds 1 liter. If under that amount they also have to be put together in one transparent plastic bag that is resealable.

This is something of what I mean...no witch hazel because it is flammable...but then so is most whiskey...and by the bye, the last time I was in a Boots and asked for witch hazel they looked at me as if I were daft and the girl said, "Why I don't believe they've made that for years..."

I found above by googling. Is that the same alcohol amount as let's say red wine? If that's the case, it doesn't seem flammable. Or aren't they the same thing ?

The question is, does TSA consider witch hazel to be a flammable liquid or not? It isn't of course, it's no more flammable than wine, but reality has never been important to the TSA or its European equivalents. A couple of websites say it's rated as if it WAS flammable, because it contains ethyl alcohol; they calculate the flash point and so on as if it was PURE ethanol. Which is stupid. But not an argument I want to have with a mouth-breathing security guard who has the power to kick me off my flight and send me to a secret prison in Uzbekistan.

Just a suggestion DiAblo and Wombat - for sprains, tired and achy feet try some "Nurofen Gel 5%." I got it at Boots in England but also have seen similar concoctions in France and Germany.

It's an ibuprofen solution in a gel formula. Works pretty good and can be brought on board.

Go to the TSA website and your airline website to get current info on what you can carry on board. Items in checked baggage are usually not an issue unless it raises questions during x-ray. I have packed in checked baggage liquer and food items, normally required to be hand carried, with no problems at x-ray or in customs as long as the items are declared.

The witchhazel I buy (yes from Boots) is a gel. Just look in the homeopathic section
