Iceland travel itinerary

Hi, all!
I wanted to get some recommendations as to what the best road trip would be.
We will have 6 full days, 7 nights. (Fly in early in the morning on a Saturday and fly out Saturday early afternoon.) We will be going in the beginning of June 2020.
It will be my husband and our two young kids. We did this type of trip in Ireland in 2017 (without kids) and loved it. Obviously we will have to go at a bit slower pace with kids but still think it’ll be loads of fun.
We fly into Reykjavík and plan to stay the first night there. Then we want to start our drive, preferably stay two nights at each hotel to try to not have to move around stuff as much.
Feel free to give me all your tips and recommendations! I’d love any and everything. I’m a bit overwhelmed starting the planning process. :)

If you haven't already, getting a good guidebook will help.

It is very hard to recommend sites, excursions without knowing what you and your family are wanting to get out of it. You could easily spend 7 nights in/around Reykjavik but if that is not what you want - I do not want to recommend doing that! So, it would be helpful for us here if you provide some background of what you are wanting to see. Also, ages of your kids could help as well is how you will be traveling. Rental car? Public transport? Tours?

With 7 days, you can potentially cover the Ring Road - however, this may not be feasible without multiple one-night hotel stops. I seriously recommend doing some guidebook research. You have over a year to plan. And while I understand that it can be tedious and overwhelming, it is usually the best way to get started. Supplement it with internet research, along with what is feasible for YOUR family.

Keep in mind that June will be the start of high season. Expect crowds.

We drove the Ring Road in 10 days - and it felt somewhat rushed with entirely too much driving and not enough down time. Six days would be a real stretch IMO, especially with youngsters.

My trip report might give you some ideas:
