>>>Heimdall, that is YOUR experience with Olympic. Who are you to tell me about MY experience with Olympic?<<<
I was telling about my experience with Olympic, marginal, NOT yours. I wasn't even thinking about you when writing my reply. Sorry if that disappoints you. :-( |
Thingorjus, whilst there is no excuse Olympic couldn't answer your calls and emails, they at least got you to Greece on time and you seemed to enjoy their business class service.
Like you, I hate it when any company refuses to respond and I understand your frustration. That said, I've flown with them many times both internally and externally and they've never let me down. Maybe I have just been lucky. I have always found their air and land crew to be polite and efficient but they tend to deliver service without a smile. Heimdall was lucky to get a few of those. With that in mind though, I couldn't care less about those smiles as I'd rather have efficient service with manners than crew with other airlines who are full of smiles and very little else. Of course, I do know others on here have had problems with Olympic so, again, perhaps I've just been lucky. bill |
Since the original poster has been gone a week now, I'm curious if she ever got her flight? Maybe we'll hear when they get back? Meanwhile, it's kind of pointless for people to still be talking to her when she left last Sunday, but I realize many of us tend not to look at the dates of the posts.
|
Yes, I also hope she got her flight.
It's like many other threads though NeoPatrick, folks do continue to discuss and occasionally (!) disagree. :-) It might also help others learn a little more about Olympic and decide whether or not to use them. Joe |
I'll be the first to agree that valuable discussion can follow, and I also realize that some of the discussion had moved well beyond the original issue of the poster. But four days after the post, someone was still suggesting that she call her credit card company. A little late for that.
|
LOL thanks NeoPatrick. I hadn't noticed that.

Actually, if you look closer at the original post, you will see that the flight to Naxos is 9/17, which is tomorrow as I write this reply.
Some travelers continue to check Fodors during their trip. Most likely 2greeceigo confirmed with the Olympic office when arriving at Athens Airport, but as a frequent internet booker of Olympic flights, I wanted to clarify what you see on the Olympic website when flights are full. |
Neo, as Heimdall points out, posts prior to the date of the flight, 9/17, were and are still possibly useful to the OP. I posted on 9/12 - that gave the OP still five days prior to the Naxos flight. Given that as I write it's still only the 16th, there's still time.
Thanks to the ubiquity of the Internet these days, it is possible to check in on-line once abroad (I've done this from Internet stations in hotels, cafes, etc., and so have others, so it's a possibility that the OP him/herself may yet do so to let us know the current state of affairs.) It's true that checking the original posting date is useful. That said, threads like this can produce discussions that might be useful to others besides the OP. The problems people raise are rarely so specific, that the discussion that ensues is totally without merit. If nothing else, posting is entertaining (remember? having fun and all that young whippersnapper nonsense? ;) ) |
In all honesty my posting about a thread being "dated" is done more for the benefit of those who didn't notice than to make an issue that all discussion should cease. I did a similar mention on one yesterday for a post that was two years old. People were commenting like they were giving advice for the original poster to follow. Someone came back and said, "thanks. I didn't notice this was an old post".
I often fail to notice the dates on posts (or even who posted). My favorite was the time I came across a post asking about information on going to Ponza for a daytrip from Rome. Since I had recently done that, I was busily typing away a long post with lots of suggestions. At one point I went back to the original post to check something, and suddenly realized that I was the original poster asking for the information BEFORE I went to Ponza. Someone had brought up a two year old post, and I was answering myself. |
No criticism intended, Neo. Perhaps it would be better if the date in the sidebar were that of the original post rather than the most recent reply. Then you wouldn't have to open a thread to discover it is two years old. Since a reply moves a thread up to the top of the list anyway, knowing the date and time of the most recent seems to me irrelevant.

Thank you all for the advice and concern! I'm happy to say that Olympic did actually respond to my email (prior to my leaving for Greece on 9/9) to let me know the flight was still taking place. They charged my credit card on 9/11, which was weeks after I booked, but they did eventually get to it. I half hoped they'd forget, but no such luck. I flew from Athens to Naxos on 9/17, which was the day after election day, as someone pointed out. Oddly enough, the flight was half empty! The service they provided was ok (like other said, they weren't the cheeriest bunch but they were efficient), my luggage arrived safely, and the flight was on time. So overall, pretty good experience. Oh, and the trip was fantastic!!!

2greeceigo, thanks for the feedback, and glad you had a good trip.
In my late August flight from Athens to Paros, Olympic didn't charge my credit card until I picked up the ticket at Athens Airport (I had booked over the internet), and the charge has only just now appeared on my credit card statement. :-) |
Hey 2greeceigo, thanks so much for coming back and giving us the ending! Glad it was a happy one.
Your experience reminds me that when Expedia and similar sites show 'no flights available' it can mean that Expedia has either not been given an allotment of seats to sell, or it has sold out, but only of its own allotment of seats. Again, glad it worked out. How was Greece? |
