No... you're not crazy! I miss my fave destinations, too... like Amsterdam, Jakarta, Berlin, NYC... the little cafes, restaurants, or just the atmosphere. I spend my free time reading travel-memoirs, maps, guidebooks, and Budget Travel magazines, and the rest of the time, reading posts here or Lonely Planet...

OK, so if financially I can't pack up everything right this minute and move to a foreign country it's because deep down I really don't want to?
Get a grip. |
Right, people have only limited time in their lifes but an enless list of excuses not to do the things they want. If you really wanted to go you'd have saved money for it in the first place, learned italian, gotten into contact with the italian authorities about the possibilities for working abroad, you'd be aware that you might not see your friends and family for quite a while. If you have done nothing of the above, why are you complaining ;-)

wow , you cannot be serious. And the smiley face at the end of your statements doesn't fool anyone.

I miss being on vacation anywhere. No boss, no lawn mowing, no Jehovah's Witnesses/Watchtower interruptions, no neighbor's cat climbing up and tearing our screens, no fighting traffic at rush hour every morning and afternoon--sweet.

Speaking of missing Italy like crazy...I just applied to help colleagues all over Italy whenever they'll take me, for however long they'll take me! It'll be as close to my dream as I can get right now. And I'll get paid too! :D
But I also realize I'm lucky that I work for an institution with international outposts. Too #$@!&% bad that I just found out about this program NOW. And to take Amanda23's analogy of a friend moved away, let's not confuse "missing a friend and visiting" to "missing a friend and moving in with said friend." It was nice to read others' "friends" as I was looking for more travel ideas! BTW, I have a London trip this summer, and it surprises me that my heart's not so in it as London is my first love! |
I miss Italy too! I didn't see my name on the Forbes's list of billionairs so I can't get there as often as I would like to go. June 2006 will be #17

I lived in Italy 20 years ago. Then in Germany for three years between 2000-2003. I made a lot of trips there during that time. I still miss it like nothing else. Everything about it. It has half my heart still i think. I constantly listen to Italian music because it brings so many good memories. I am not sure what it is about the place but it still has a hold on me.
