I just saw aurora borealis :-)

I was on my way back from a movie tonight when I looked to the north and saw aurora borealis or northern lights. OK, so why am I thrilled? Well, I live in Stavanger in southern Norway and we don't really see this phenomenon that often this far south. But it is beautiful :-)

I would be thrilled too!

It is really amazing! I have seen it from Canada but last night on the news, our weatherman in Washington, D.C. showed pictures taken nearby. I never imagined that it could be seen this far south!

The northern lights are magical, aren't they, Gard? I saw them once when I lived in Minneapolis; they were so pretty with the colors moving around in the sky.
I've read that this year the lights have been visible at much lower latitudes than usual and have been seen in the US even as far south as Virginia.

On a flight from Boston to Zurich a couple years ago we had the aurora out the left-side windows virtually all the way across the Atlantic. It was like flying alongside a shimmering green curtain - definitely one of the most amazing things I've ever seen through the window of an airliner.

They are supposed to be visible here in Chicago tonight-saw them Sunday and they (it?) was beautiful.

We saw a wonderful aurora show from the UP of Michigan several years ago. Unforgettable!

Is anyone else old enough to remember the Pogo song:

(Now that's an example of the useless things I remember, when I have to write down anything important!)

Yes, here in Michigan we've been treated to quite the light show the past few nights. It's been very clear here, too, which makes for optimal enjoyment of the event!

Uh, thanks, but I'll keep my hair just the way it is, thanks. The little plug of hair that came out during last year's chemotherapy, right at the nape of my neck, finally grew back in!
