As a new daily lurker and infrequent poster, I am 59. My love (husband of 36 yrs.) and I used to take a big (overseas trip) every 5 years, but did the math and realized we (and our knees) aren't going to do everything we wish so we raised it to every 2 and in the past 4 years have travelled every year abroad. We also visit extensively in the US mostly because our kids are all over and we like to timeshare once a year in a new location. Really enjoy this Board only not too much info on Scandinavia, next year's trip. This year was Spain, last year a barge trip on the Canal du midi as well a 9 days in Paris, the year before, China, and the year before that, Egypt. One son lived in Czeck Republic so we travelled each year throughouta Eastern Europe.

I am 59. I spent most of my early years growing up in Europe. I live in the US now with my husband. Try to make yearly trips to Europe. Am going on a pilgrimage to France in February.
sj

I'm 58 and I live in New York. I get to Europe once or twice a year, and the Caribbean once a year, and some US travel.
There seem to be a fair number of this pre-boomer (born during the war) generation, which is a small generation, on this board.

Meira-you're not the only one, I live in Israel as well.

Steve: Do you really think anyone cares about your 3 planned holidays at a time like this? Steve was that 51 or 15 ?
s.fowler Sep 13th, 2001 11:29 AM

Definitely agree with S. Fowler.
And all of us posting here, are fortunate enough to be older than we were on Tuesday!
Steve,
Ignore the rude posting, unfortunately they come out even in times like these!
I guess they can not help themselves.

To "who cares": Do you have enough self awareness to realize how utterly ridiculous it is for you, a person who is reading a frivolous thread re Fodorites' ages "at a time like this" to condemn Steve because "at a time like this" he simply answered the frivolous question asked, and added a note about his planned travel, which is after all the normal subject matter of this travel forum. And, by the way, if that happens to be "Steve from Bath," he's someone especially undeserving of any disrespect, in light of his many helpful and impeccably courteous contributions to this forum. (And if not THAT particular Steve, he still didn't deserve the nasty criticism.)

Arabella Sep 13th, 2001 01:52 PM

Beautifully put, S. Fowler. Wish we could have ended this thread with your posting.

I too am saddened by the recent events. The world is in turmoil and we'll feel the effects of it, probably for ever.
I'm also saddened by the vitriolic and caustic comments some people make, SHAME on you. We all deal with trauma and shock differently and if we could learn to walk in each others shoes, then it would go a long way to creating a peaceful world.I feel very fortunate and privileged to be able to continue on and experience another day. I'm 54, young compared to some of you and old compared to others. I belong to a volunteer organisation called SERVAS, we host interstate and overseas visitors. If you're contemplating a visit to Australia, in particular Darwin, find out about SERVAS in your country and get in touch. We've met some wonderful people from all over the world, it's a great way to travel.
