Added Stonehenge to my list from my trip last week. So now it's around 63.
|
161 with Easter Island (visited last week).

Does Dresden still count as a UNESCO WH Site? Is at least in process of being stripped of that designation
|
I'm checking this list and counting as we speak:
http://whc.unesco.org/en/list I guess it's not enough: > 49. Australia: 4-5 Austria: 2 Belgium: 2-3 China: 2-3 Czech Republic: 1 France: 6 Germany: 5 Greece: 1 Holy See: 1 Israel: 0-1 Italy: 7 Norway: 1-2 Portugal: 1 Spain: 5 Sweden: 1 Switzerland: 1 Turkey: 1 UK: 4-6 USA: 3 |

48 and counting

I actually went back to the list and recounted - with the help of my brother since my memory is quite poor. My total is actually 75!
|
OK - I counted a whopping 11! I had better get travelling!
US - Grand Canyon Mammoth Caves Statue of Liberty (I lived on Oahu for 3 years, but never made to volcanoes NP) Europe - We did Bavaria in December...can't believe Kathe Wolfarte's is not on the list!!! darn! Austria - Historic Centre of the City of Salzburg Palace and Gardens of Schönbrunn China - Imperial Palaces of the Ming and Qing Dynasties in Beijing and Shenyang Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor The Great Wall Summer Palace, an Imperial Garden in Beijing Temple of Heaven: an Imperial Sacrificial Altar in Beijing Imperial Tombs of the Ming and Qing Dynasties |
At first glance - 42.
It is a surprising list in regards to what isn't on it. |
43 over 12 countries-most in UK, forgot I live nearly next door to one and have only visited 6 in the country I live in-Australia!!
|
77, much to my surprise.
Interesting list. |
The updated count for me is 80.
After next month's trip to Vienna and Budapest, I'll add 3 more. |
Total has risen to 133. 16 more this year with trips to Portugal, Russia, Belarus and Ukraine..of course not counting those I had already visited on prior trips to Russia, SSR days))...at my age ain't never gonna catch the peripatetic THIT-CHO...he's speeding toward 200!!

>>>16 more this year with trips to Portugal, Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.. co<<<
That should read...2008 when above trips were taken. |
My total is 58 sites.
|
Able to add several due to two trips I've taken since I posted on this several years ago and one added to the list that I had previously visited...
Original List of 48: Great Barrier Reef, Queensland Tropics, Uluru-Kata Tjunta, Blue Mountains, Seine-Paris, Acropolis, Rhodes, Olympia, Mycenae, Patmos, Historic Rome, Vatican, Florence, Pisa, Venice, Ravenna, Padua, Verona, Fez, Marrakesh, Meknes, Volubilis, Batalha, Tower of Belem, Sintra, Alto Douro, Alhambra, Avila, Toledo, Seville, Salamanca, Stonehenge, Bath, Westminster, Canterbury, Tower of London, Edinburgh, Greenwich, Liverpool, Mesa Verde, Yellowstone, Everglades, Grand Canyon, Redwoods, Smoky Mountains, Statue of Liberty, Yosemite and Carlsbad Caverns. Add 6 due to recent trips: Iguazu/Iguacu (Argentina/Brazil), Berne, Swiss Alps, Swiss Railway, Monte San Giorgio (Switzerland), Colonia (Uruguay) 1 added to UNESCO List: Sydney Opera House My total is now 55 Keith |
Oops,
Forgot Salzburg in Austria... Total: 56 Keith |
About 76 including 16 in the US. (we camped a lot when the kids were young).
Actually I think there were more, but I don't recognize some by their "formal" names. |
I am now at 54. I added 5 more in 2009.
Hope to add more in 2010! |
ps. I thought I'd point out again - both sites I originally linked are wonderful. The second one is unofficial but the owner put a LOT of work into it...
|
Hey, but have any of you actually TOURED Unesco headquarters in Paris with an official delegation that included the Education Minister of Iran?
I have. Thin |
Since my last post in 2007, I have added 5 more for a total of 83: Dinosaur Provincial Park in Alberta, Canada, Iguazu Falls Argentina (didn't get to the Brazil side), Valparaiso old town Chile, and two in Germany: the Residenz in Wuerzburg, and the old town in Bamberg.
I hope to add 7 or 8 more this year in visits to Russia and Italy. |
Thin, Did you go to school for 2 years at an Unesco site?
I did. You win with the Education Minister - I was just being educated :) OOO.. almost forgot - I was also treated at a hospital in an Unesco site - Nope.... you still win because the doctor sucked and I have an inch long scar on my leg :( |
Time to update, everyone.
I just saw a feature on Deutsche Welle about the Thracian Tomb near Sveshtari, Bulgaria, and remembered this thread about UNESCO World Heritage Sites. I know after a little research that Sveshtari is a bit out of the way, but still, no one has it on their list? |
I've seen 79 sites and will be adding a few more later this year.
|
This is crazy... I've been to 11 countries but so far I only counted about 14 sites I've seen?!?!?! That means I'm not visiting the "must sees" when I travel.
Should be adding 4-5 this fall. |
52! :) Well I'm surprised.

Petros,
Hate to bear bad news, but I think it may only be 51. Dresden Elbe Valley has been "delisted" because UNESCO was not pleased with a bridge built over the river. Still an impressive list, though! (And I only point this out because I happened to notice that the Dresden Elbe Valley had been crossed out on the UNESCO listing, with the "delisted" term next to it. Was mighty curious about that.) |
If they add my grandmother's couch it would 67.
|
55 - Mostly Europe, some US and Canada, a couple from Mexico and Japan, and one from New Zealand.
Mostly, when going down the list, I am reminded of how many countries I have never visited and how many fascinating places there are in the world that I would love to see. |
84 but I may have missed a few. I'm glad to say I've hit nearly all the North American ones - Canada, US and Mexico - and many in Europe.
I want to get to 100. |
I'm now up to 52.
((H)) |
I am now up to 63.
|
In my post in January 2010 I noted that I had visited 83 sites. My current total is now 119, after travels in Russia, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Viet Nam, Cambodia, Kenya, Tanzania, Turkey, Greece, Croatia, Serbia, Albania, Montenegro, Hungary, and the Czech Republic where I visited UNESCO sites which I had never seen before. I hope to add more in the coming year in travels to India and Ecuador.

I am topping this again to query: which were your favorites UNESCO sites and why?
|

Only 10 sites for me (I feel like such a piker among the rest of you!). It's tough for us to get away to travel, but we do like to visit UNESCO sites whenever we can.
US - Everglades - Grand Canyon (I don't think you can count the one time I flew over the Statue of Liberty) Austria - Salzburg historic city center England - Stonehenge - Westminster Palace/Abbey France - Paris/banks of the Seine - Strasbourg (in just another couple months) Germany - Heidelberg (it's on the tentative list, I understand) - Neuschwanstein (also on the tentative list) - Upper Middle Rhine Valley (in just another couple months!) Of all of those, Stonehenge was my favorite -- not for the hype but just for the energy I felt there (ley lines?). The Tower of London, Heidelberg and Salzburg are all close runners-up, though. |
I'm with you, Kandace.
Only 18 for me. (I'm 25 years from retirement so still working, I have 2 young kids who are just in the last few years old enough to travel somewhere other than the beach, and a husband who is a homebody, so don't judge :) Plus, it's a lot harder for us North Americans to reach these places than for those of you in Europe! You have many close options to choose from! The UNESCO sites are few and far between in the U.S. I do hope to continue traveling and increase my number! It will go up in July, for sure. |
