How do I get to FCO @ 5:00 AM ????
How do I get to FCO @ 5am for a flight that leave at 6.30.
i am staying in trastevere and want to have a plan before the actual departure date. |
Kimberlina - Unfortunately the earliest train from Roma Trastevere is at 05.25 (arr. FCO 05.48) - so you might want to arrange a taxi/limo instead. These are often recommended here:
www.limoservicerome.com The alternative public transport option is the night bus service. It departs Roma Tiburtina at 03.45 (- Roma Termini 5-10 mins later). Hope this helps ... Steve |
We stay at the Airport Hilton the night before we have an early flight. It's walking distance from the train and the airport. It's actually connected to both by covered walkway. They have a free shuttle bus to and from Rome. It leaves the hotel (I think) on the even hours and Rome on the odd hours. It runs until late at night so you won't miss anything you wanted to squeeze in to Rome on your last day. Staying at the airport you have no worries if the limo arrives on time and you get an extra hours sleep in the morning.

For that early a flight, we stay at the airport.
Take the shuttle into Rome and back again, as Ann says the evening before. Good luck. |
On my most recent trip I had to leave my hotel at 5am for an early morning flight to Milan. I used Limoservicerome.com

Hi -
Can anyone tell me if a taxi is significantly cheaper than a limo from FCO into downtown? I checked out the rates on limoservicerome.com and they quote about $45E. Is there a significant advantage to one over the other - either cost and/or convenience? Thanks. |
Hi travelfly--I assume that you are not asking about a trip that would have to depart at 4:00am, like the OP. Our hotel pre-booked a driver for an agreed upon price. I see that as a better choice b/c the service wants to please their repeat customer (the hotel). It was a really nice driver in a Mercedes and it was a stress free trip. You might want to contact your hotel and ask them how much the limo service is. I think--I may be wrong--that the services may give the hotel bookings better prices than an individual quote. It cannot hurt to ask.....You already have a price for comparison purposes. At the time, (2000) we paid the equivalent of $50 from Pantheon area, but that was before euros and the anemic dollar, and everything seems to have skyrocketed since then.

Not a big deal. Have your hotel make sure there is a cab there waiting for you. It cost us 60E for 6 of us from an area near the British embassy. It seems like it only took about 15-20 min.
|
thanks for your replies. this really helped.
unfortunatly all my nights are booked so i cannot stay at the airport the night before. although i wish i had thought of this. i actually had my apt. before my flight. also, i am not in a hotel, but renting a flat in trastevere. i can check to see if the booking agency can assist me in a limo service. i surely dont want to ride a bus at 3am. Well next time i will be better prepared... |
Check with Andrea at limoservicerome.com (be careful, it's not limoservicesrome.com), as recommended above. It's a service that many of us on this board have been happy with. It's very reliable. I'd rather spend my last night in Rome and not at an airport hotel, but you do need reliable transportation to the airport at that hour.
|
thanks betsy- i agree...i didnt want to spend my last day checking in & out of hotels anyway...even though it's too late for me...i am already booked.
i am going to check out limoservicerome.com right now !! |
It may take Andrea a day or two to get back to you, but he will.

kimberlina,
do ask the person who rented you the flat in they have a service at a reasonable price. In June our lady provided us with a driver for 41 Euro and he was there early. However we are staying at a different flat this time, and their price is 50 Euro PLUS 20% for the early morning rides.(ouch) Our plane leaves at 7:05 so we have to leave by 5:00 (I think). I'm going to try limoservice rome too. If you get a better deal, please post it here! Good Luck, Carol |
Carol- i did in fact... ask my "flat owner".
I am still waiting for limoservicerome.com's answer. My rentor (realrome.com) also said they could get me a ride at 52euro. I am waiting to compare the 2 prices. I have to leave at 4am...OUCH! |
HI kim--, just to let you know, here in BOS, they charge around a 20% premium for car service to airport at that hour of the day. Therefore I assume that may be true in other places as well. You are wise to arrange it ahead so there will not be any unpleasant "surprises". Good luck!!
|
Another one is romashuttle.com.
I think they are 40 Euro, but they also have that 20% sur-charge for our early am pickups. But 48 Euro may be a winner. Carol |
well i was quoted 54e from Limoservicerome.com and 52e from my hotel. i think i will go with Limoservicerome. Several people recommended them so i feel safe with that.

Ask your hotel to call you a cab in the morning. Are you staying at Hotel Santa Maria? If so, they are dependable and will get you your taxi with no problem. We made the mistake of spending our last night in Rome at the Rome Airport Hilton - in order to save the taxi fare and wake up a little later. DONT DO IT.

Hi Kim,
I feel your pain! (I'm staying in an apartment in Piazza Navona for a week, and then going south, but back to Rome for one night before departure) For anyone else (and it sounds like there's a couple of people): I checked all the hotels with shuttles nearby the airport -- none of them operate that early. Further, a taxi ride of 2-3km will cost approx. 50-60E (yeah, the taxi drivers aren't dumb) :) The Hilton runs approx $250-$280 a night and is not offered on most of those "discount" big name sites like Travelocity. BUT, I am curious Scout -- what was wrong with the Hilton? Regards, Melodie |
We liked limoservicerome, think you'd have the best luck with them but for what it's worth: I had a cabbie in Halifax NS, who picked me up at 4:45am, point out to me that there are plenty of cabbie who prefer overnight duty and a 4:45 am pick-up for them is about comparable to a 4:45 pm pick up (without rush hour traffic) for the ones who like to work days. I was always worried that the driver might sleep through an alarm, but of course it made sense that there might be someone who went on duty at 10 pm, did lots of pick-ups of late-night "merrymakers" and would be quite happy to have a last 4:45 am pick-up for the airport ($$$) before going off duty. (And if that's true in Halifax, it would CERTAINLY be true for Rome.)
