I got hooked first on Lonely Planet's Thorn Tree when researching a trip to a town I hadn't been to before in Mexico in 2000. Somehow found Fodors and stayed on here too.

a web search on European Travel- it's been my home page ever sice (1999, I think)

jnn1964 Dec 10th, 2004 12:58 PM

Fodors was pre-loaded in the 'favorites' section of my web browser way back in the old days.

I don't remember! But one day I went back and now I know my first post is dated 08/10/01.

One thing still amazes me here on the European forum - doesn't matter what's the question Rex must pull up an old thread or two answering it.

I've been here since 1998 when, bored at work, I began research for a trip to Great Britain that I had promised myself for a retirement gift. It was a great trip, too (September 2001)!

Moses and I were discussing water, dust, sunlight and electrons one day, when I decided to write the code to begin Fodor's. Ask Al Gore. He invented the internet. I invented Fodors.

Anybody know who invented wading boots?

This is the first time I post, but have been reading everything about paris, amsterdam and madrid in prepartion for our May 2005 trip!!

This Spring! And boy am I a newbie compared to some! I belonged to another board but decided I wanted to put a trip together without guided tour. I came to Fodor's to search little hotels, and discovered the talk, and some great info- and people were willing to help from my very first post. Amazing to that this great resource has been here all along, and some people discovered it years ago.

Stumbled across it when doing research for a trip in 2003. Noticed that Fodors had a talk site and peeked. Got hooked on it after learning lots of useful tidbits. Just read initially then finally joined the discussions this year when I actually had useful info to contribute.

I've been a "regular" on the AOL England travel boards since 1997 and someone recently mentioned the Fodors board there. So I thought I'd check it out.

I like the format of the AOL boards better, but I think this one gets more traffic.

Kayb95...I was so glad to see you posting here..I left AOL (didn't mention them by name before) about a year ago and you were one of the people I was going to be missing, your knowledge and assistance was always wonderful so hope you'll pop in here from time to time. I miss a few people on the France board also but man, it was just a mess over there when I left. Anyway, I recognized your name and was glad to see it.

My experience is similar to several of you. I have to admit, I used to mistake Frommer to Fodor, but after a few posts on Fodors, it is clear which one I keep coming back to.

dan_woodlief Dec 10th, 2004 07:21 PM

I can never remember exactly. I found it either just before or after a trip to Switzerland and France back in '97. Just by surfing.

I POSTED A QUESTION ON RICK STEVE'S WEB SITE AMD THEY TOLD ME NO QUESTIONS. JUST COMMENTS AND I'VE BEEN HERE EVER SINCE AND HAVE JUST FINISHED MY 8TH EUTOPEAN TRIP SINCE THEN. THANKS FODORS AND ALL YOU HELPFUL FODORITES OUT THERE.

Spring 2001, we were planning our Italy trip. My daughter told me about Fodors. Hooked immediately.
Fodorites have helped me plan many trips, I have favorite restaurants in Portland, Las Vegas, at home in NYC, in Florida, where to stop on the highway from NYC to Fl with a dog, all thanks to Fodors! ((F))

MelJ Dec 10th, 2004 08:02 PM

I believe it was early Spring 1999, but I have no idea how I got here!

DeirdreStraughan Dec 10th, 2004 09:43 PM

A year or so ago it was mentioned on SlowTrav, then a regular hangout of mine. I actually don't plan trips, or never have so far, but try to help others concerning my own neck of the woods (Milan/Lake Como). Plus, I have this website...

I really don't remember how I found Fodors, but it was after my first trip to France in 1997 and I have been here ever since. I can't count all the good ideas I have come across here that have enhanced my other trips to Europe. Thank you all.

tuscanlifeedit Dec 11th, 2004 01:26 PM

I started to hear a lot about Fodors in the past year from some travel buddies on the Internet. Previously, I had been very active on another board, and also spent a bit of time on rec.travel.europe for years. I don't like Frommers much, SlowTravel seems to hard to jump into, and Rick Steves board is, IMO, useless.

Ever since I started to participate in Fodors, I am on nearly every day and I love it. The folks here have incredibly good information and I hope that I help, too.
