Scarlett dear, it is Extra Virgin Olive Oil, LOL. And why cook when there are restaurants all around you. I am sooo jealous!!!
|
I know dear, I just call it Olive Oil. and I also never call it Stoup LOL Unless it is just too stoupid LOL
(she calls thick soup stoup because it is like stew/soup) |
Candice, "Stoup", OK, LOL. Obviously I haven't watched RR enough (thank goodness). That is funny!
I just always think that I too could fix dinner in 30 minutes if someone else figured out the menu, made out the shopping list, did the shopping, schlepped everything to the kitchen, prepared the food and then cleaned up afterwards. Sounds like a good deal to me!! Now again, if I had all the fabulous restaurants around me that you have Scarlett I wouldn't even remember where my kitchen was, LOL. Take care. |
I must admit that I did not hear her say this, I read it in the Times :)
Yes, my pretty stove does not get too much use, maybe that is why it is so pretty? lol. |
i also just say olive oil. last time i was in the states, i heard everyone saying E V O or whatever and at first i had absolutely no idea what they were talking about. certain people kept saying it over and over like they thought it was cool. that was a couple years ago so i think they were emulating someone else like emeril or some other loudmouth chef.
i am planning another trip to the states and i was really hoping that the term EVO had run its course. i'm sad to hear that i'll again have to put up with this annoying phrase that people drop to sound cool. |
The only Rachel Ray I've ever heard of is in a novel by Anthony Trollope.
|
The fate of all "domestic godesses" is to eventually be the subject of ridicule, i.e Child, Stewart, Ray. It comes with the packgage; the bigger they get... Is it envy? jelousy? familiarity-breeding-contempt? It is all of it plus disdain. To be honest, I kinda of cringe at people who make idols of such people as Stewart or Ray.
|
viajero - It's not jealousy it's just frustrating that these people that are so untalented have so much fame and fortune while there are those out there trying to carve a niche for themselves will never have what "Queen Yummo" has. When I heard RR say "Stoup" for the first time I thought I wasn't hearing her correctly.
I like her 40 dollars a day and the travel show for obvious reasons. We get to see the world and she isn't doing the cooking. I went to a Malibu restaurant she had recommended and the food was horrible, yet she did her rendition of MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM yummo followed by more MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM's. I took a friend there and both entrees were awful. |
"stoup" sorry to say that is how America eats.
|
Viagaro I agree with you 100%.
|
I have never heard anyone that I know personally say EVOO. Only olive oil or extra virgin olive oil etc. And I have never heard of stoup. RR is a a bit irritating IMO but guess she is giggling all the way to the bank.
|
Nor I, Loveitaly.
|
I have heard other cooks regard say evo she did not make that up.
Stoup well that is not too different than other food network specialties. |
here is a receipe on Epicurious using evo to identify extra virgin olive oil.

Sarah, we are not saying she made it up . We have a restaurant named EVO here, but most cooks do not say that nor any of us with a Mediterranean background
|
IMHO :)
|
She has worked very hard but more importantly she is filling a niche. Good for her. She's annoying as is almost every personality (to some people) but obviously the need is being filled.
Lots of people are annoying but they don't make millions at it. O:) |
neeezz she has an audience that eats cheeseburger salads? Do you really need an answer to that question? Still laughing about stoup! I have not watched her in a while that is so funny.
Still think larger question is why does America eat like this. AND I WILL SAY IT AGAIN! Bobby Flay and Emerill Lagassi are far less imaginative than Ray and worth a larger grumble. Cig.... That is why I left you the receipe link. I have heard it before on other cooking shows by chefs, that is all I am saying. I just think it is a new reference. I remember myself thinking what the heck is evo and friend watching (a PBS cooking show) with me told me. Oh and her father is from Turkey her mother is Italian American from Queens LOL. :)Just kidding. Will somone leave this thread and help me with an budget twin room in Paris where the beds are not pushed together??? Traveling with someone that snores! |
Wow I cannot believe people are still tearing her apart. Rachael Ray the person and Rachael Ray the Food Network commodity are very different things... Please remember that people have feelings, too... if you have a problem with her show, then turn it off. Tear her show apart- sure, if you feel the need, complain about the producers that have made the show the way it is. But talking about HER, as if she personally had done something wrong that upsets you so much? By referring to olive oil as EVOO? I wish her much success... I guess positive energy goes a long way in the world. |
we have the same problem!!!
