Madison, thanks for the heads up, I'm over her already, and you've helped me save an hour of my life. I'll alphabetize my spices and watch reruns of Julia Child instead.

katya_NY Oct 19th, 2005 02:40 PM

I happen to like her, and only partially because I am one of the people who watched her on channel 6 in Albany before she was famous...

She's funny and makes some nice simple dishes that I can usually adapt to my needs. What else do I need from a TV cook?

(BTW-Emeril drives me crazy, and always has... he looks like an ex-con to me. Never quite makes full eye contact. )

The good news is... if you don't like her, just turn the channel! The wonders of American cable TV... I'm sure she won't be heart broken...

Why is this post on the Fodor's Travel Talk - Europe Forum in the first place? What does a overhyped TV food chef and whatever shows she has have to to do with either travel or Europe?

elaine Oct 19th, 2005 03:08 PM

Let's see.
Rachael cooks food.
Europe has food.
:)

ThinGorjus Oct 19th, 2005 03:11 PM

Hazel, darling, Snobby is a member of the INNER CIRCLE. She can post anything she likes on this forum. If YOU don't like it, don't read it.

PS This is related to traveling as Rachel Ray's show, "$40 A DAY," deals with dining in European restaurants. Haven't you ever watched her mug for the camera at Il Latini in Florence? She practically has bean soup running down her chin.

peeky Oct 19th, 2005 03:17 PM

Is inner circle something that you do with the hand?

I didn't realize there were such circles on travel talk but I live and I learn.

EEEEEEK here I am again on a Rachael Ray thread SOMEONE HELP ME

111op Oct 19th, 2005 03:21 PM

You know, I was thinking that this has nothing to do with Europe also, but I did find the article interesting.

It's not the first time that something off-topic has been posted.

:-)

Madison Oct 19th, 2005 03:31 PM

Elaine and ThinGorgous - Funny as always

chepar Oct 19th, 2005 04:05 PM

Actually, I thought peeky was being rather amusingly cheeky. :)

SharonG Oct 19th, 2005 04:25 PM

Oh my goodness, ThinGorjus, I almost lost my lunch laughing at your post and your uncle's quote. Love it!!!

StCirq Oct 19th, 2005 05:33 PM

Of course it has something to do with travel! Haven't you ever watched RR in Europe on those $40 a Day shows? She's the only living person who can swallow an entire cone of gelato in one gulp.

Nothing to do with travel...sheesh! YOU go to Italy and try that!;)

massagediva Oct 19th, 2005 07:34 PM

Didn't we rake Rachael over the coals already? Isn't it Rick's turn?

Marilyn Oct 19th, 2005 08:33 PM

Thin, you crack me up. I will forever picture RR with bean soup running down her chin.

Scarlett Oct 19th, 2005 10:51 PM

What an odd photographe..NYCTS, you should know-is that odd to show her at such an angle? ..or were they going for the Largest Mouth in NY look?

But I have the same stove as Rachel Ray so she must have very good stove taste :D

Madison Oct 19th, 2005 11:26 PM

MassageDiva - I really don't know much about Rick steves. Too bad Sandra Lee's show isn't connected in some way to travel. She would be a good candidate to "critique." After all how many people can say they invented the Lassitini drink?

Madison Oct 19th, 2005 11:30 PM

Scarlett - Thank you for bringing up Rachael's mouth in that photo. I forgot to. Didn't her mother ever teach her not to smile so wide and that it will cause her to have stretch marks around her mouth?

alya Oct 19th, 2005 11:35 PM

Madison - I'd take RR over Sandra Lee anytime! RR might be rather too 'perky' but at least she made it on her own.

Oh, to marry a rich guy and end up with your own cooking show - even if the recipes are dodgy. No-one that thin cooks for a living!

Scarlett - nice stove :-)

ElendilPickle Oct 19th, 2005 11:39 PM

Madison, Sandra Lee was discussed in the Rachael Ray wedding thread. :-)

Lee Ann

NYCTravelSnob Oct 20th, 2005 04:14 AM

Scarlett, I thought the photo was an awful choice. It looks like she's auditioning for "Finding Nemo 2." For a minute, I couldn't tell whether the Times was lauding her or poking fun. Unfortunately, unless you have a "final pick" PR contract, photo editors at magazines and newspapers rule the roost.

"You're welcome" to all those who thanked me for the url, and food has everything to do with travel as far as I'm concerned. They don't call me NYCFood/TravelSnob for nothing.

ps Oh, Thin...how you make me laugh. As long as I'm here, don't you ever leave this board.

Gretchen Oct 20th, 2005 04:23 AM

Her recipes are quite good. She uses REAL food--no soup mixes. She cooks healthy things. As for writing your own cookbook, go for it. We all have those recipes, to be honest.
I have bought a couple of her cookbooks for our kids. Both spouses work, they want to cook attractive and healthy things quickly when they come home. What's not to like. And her kids cookbook is very cute.
