In Avignon, we stayed at Hotel Mignon. It was indeed cute, had a friendly staff, and affordable rates (approximately $20 - $25 per person).

Check out Chateau de Roussan just outside of St. Remy

Sue,

Is it possible to walk from Chateau de Roussan into St. Remy without risking injury either from traffic or the terrain? Also, I read in some guidebook a comment about the staff there being snooty--was that your experience? Would appreciate any first-hand knowledge you or anyone else has.

Ruth,
Sorry to disappoint you...I was told that that hotel was in the area Linda needs, but I really don't have first hand info...that's why I told her to check it out.

Linda,
My wife and I have stayed at a small hotel in St. Remy for the last seven years. It is clean, has a nice pool, garden--price is reasonable. We have become friends with the proprietor Christophe. You can walk in to town very easily. The hotel is L'Amandiere, phone, 011-33 4 9092 41 00. Give Anthony and Carole's best wishes to Christophe and Claudine!

Linda:
Stayed in Hotel Rousson for 5 days last summer and loved it. Staff was not "snooty" at all. They don't provide entertainment but they were always pleasant esp. at meals. You can easily walk into town along a beautiful country road , its about 1.5 miles ( a rough estimate). We found however that all we wanted to do was laze around beside the reflecting pool and watch the swans as we read a good book. this is the place to go to get a brief rest from the non-stop we tend to cram into every trip to France. So don't believe everything you read in guidebooks. HOpe this helps.

Luck , Pitner
