Hotel le Clement....6,rue Clement...in the 6th...very easy transportation as the metro is two short blocks away and connects to line B very easily. Ask for a room facing the street. The hotel is on a relatively quiet square. I've stayed in that neighborhood for 25 years and love it. Happy Travels!

I stayed at Le Clos Medicis a few years ago, and liked it very much- it's easy walking distance to the Luxembourg RER.
It's on Rue Monsieur le Prince, the upper end near the Luxembourg Gardens. The closest Metro was Odeon. I'm not sure what their prices are now, but in 2001, I think I paid around $150 for a superior double - of course that would be more now. It's also air conditioned. |
Hi Logan,
The Hotel Bonaparte is 4 min by metro from St. Michel-Notre Dame. It is 4 min from the St. Sulpice metro station. ((I)) |
I'm overwhelmed by the generous time so many fellow travelers have taken with me. You gave me 3 more PERFECT hotels--Le Senat, Le Clos Medici, and Jardin de l'Odeon. Naturally, ALL 3 HAVE NO VACANCIES for 20-23 Sept. I think Venere.com has my email address keyed to auto-response beginning with "Unfortunately..."
Not interested in hotels near a metro "a few minutes" from RER Line B, by the way. If not on RER Line B, I'll say a 4-letter word and take a cab to Gare du Nord, thence to CDG. Not going to struggle with luggage on the Metro. I'm about ready to pay an obscene rate to stay at Hotel du Pantheon, even though it's on the "wrong" side of Blvd St Michel--(I really want to be a little on the west side.) But enough of my whining. Thanks again to all. |
BestWestern.com shows 'available' status for Sept 19-24 for these hotels near RER-B:
BW Royal St Michel (5th) Senior rate 202€ corp rate 213€ best rate 220€ BW le Nouvel Orleans (14th) 152-160€ (same RER as next hotel below, but about a 3-block walk down ave du Gen.Leclerc) The next hotel is immediately across from the RER-Denfert Rochereau station, and I've read that it was renovated in 2003. They have an online form but not real-time response. This is a nice neighborhood although a bit 'south' of central. Hotel du Midi ** www.midi-hotel-paris.com |
You're right about the Royal St Michel still being available, TravelNut, altho I hadn't realized it was a BWestern. It's virtually the same price as du Pantheon, maybe a few bucks more, and is my alternative. One has 36 rms, the other 39.
Do you know the territory well enough to know which of the 2 better fits my needs--i.e., easy walking distance to St Michel or Lux and within a stroll of the cafes and street life of St Germain? Neither apparently will guarantee a Non-smoking room, which is maddening, but will note it as a "request." So it's down to PANTHEON vs ROYAL ST-MICHEL. Must decide by tonight or first thing tomorrow. Has anybody stayed at either? |
There are good reviews on Tripadvisor but I think the most positive ones are re: Royal St Michel. Please read them for yourself before deciding.
The RSM is roughly 250 meters from the RER but I believe that station is very large. Someone might be able to advise as to which exit is best. The HDP is about 400 meters from the Lux RER. That's reasonable, either one. The RSM is very close to many restaurants, bars, boulangeries, etc, either Latin Qtr or over in St Germain. It's also centered in a very touristy area but everything you need is nearby. There are also some good restaurants around the Pantheon, but I don't think they are as frequent. HDP is closer to Jardin de Lux, but RSM is closer to Saint Germain. At least, that's how I see it. |
They are both pretty convenient to an RER stop. The Royal is practically on top of the St-Michel one, it's just a few feet away at the corner of that same block, but it's a very short block. The Hotel du Pantheon is at place du Pantheon which is a couple blocks from the Luxembourg stop, but they aren't real long blocks, either. I personally would not like the location of the Royal as it is right on bd St Michel in the middle of tourist central. If the room is quiet, that may not matter. It depends where you want to walk to in St Germain. They are both very close as St Germain basically starts at bd St Michel. The Royal is probably more convenient because you can take the metro from St Michel stop west to Odeon or St Germain des Pres stops easily if you wish. The Pantheon isn't near a metro stop, only the Luxembourg RER stop. So for transportation convenience, the Royal is probably better. However, St Michel is a big RER stop with connections, stairs, and walking around and Luxembourg is small and simple.

One more but you have to contact them to determine avail. It is a nice place but less expensive.

topping for Logan...
|
I don't know what "topping" means, so if it means "Enough on this subject," forgive the breach of etiquette for one last posting. Thought I owed it to you to say that I bit the cost bullet and reserved at RSM. Got a few $ shaved off the cost by calling Best Western's int'l reservations.
I share the same reservations as a couple of you have about the RSM, but I can live with them if I'm lucky to get a Non-smoking room (They have only 8 of them, I found out--or 20% of the 40 rms. I think it may be the entire 4th floor, since there are 8 rms to the floor beginning with 2nd floor--what Europeans call 1st floor.) Thanks again for all your help. I'm going to open a new thread about les carnets vs ParisVisite. I know you can't wait. P.S. As mentioned in an earlier posting, I'd checked Hotel 3Colleges, Travelnut, and they were full. |
Hotel D'Albe on Rue de la Harpe. St. Michel metro is a stones throw from the front door.
|
The RSM is right on the corner of Rue St-Sevérin, probably less than 100 meters from the RER entrance. Here's a detailed map of the neighborhood:
http://www.ratp.info/picts/plans/pdf...int_michel.pdf Since your sojourn in Paris will be from Wednesday through Sunday, a Paris Visite would not be a good investment. If the total number of Métro and bus rides you will take is less than 15, then get the carnet tickets. Otherwise, get a 2-zone Carte Orange (be sure to buy it on Wednesday). You will need to present a 1" square ID photo (digital ok) when you buy the pass. |
Oops. Séverin.
|
Sorry, I missed about '3 Colleges' but glad you booked something. "Topping" means to raise the post up from the dredges, but your interpretation made me laugh.
We nearly always buy the Carte Orange weekly pass, in fact I try to plan my arrival in order to take advantage of it. Wednesday is the last day of the week that you can buy it, and you can get one to cover zones 1-5 for about 31€ at CDG to use on the RER. It's good through Sunday so you can use it to return to CDG, if that's what you're doing. (Separately, a zone 1-2 C.O. costs about 16€ and the RER to CDG costs about 8€ each way). Bring a small photo of your face for the id card (1x1 inch or so). |
In April we stayed at Hotel de Suez in the Latin Quarter and it was very close to the RER B as we took it in and out for CDG. The location was very good and the place was clean with a good breakfast (extra). We would certainly go back again.
