Hotels near RER Line B stations, Left Bank

Can anyone recommend a good Left Bank hotel (under 150 Euros for a Single, if poss) within a couple of blocks of one of these 3 RER stations to CDG airport: St Michel-Notre Dame, Luxembourg, or Port-Royal?

Merci. Info on such a place greatly appreciated.

Travelnut Jul 23rd, 2006 06:16 PM

There are tons of them... maybe:

Grand Hotel St Michel 104-130€ / single
http://www.grand-hotel-st-michel.com/

Hotel Dacia Luxembourg 132€ /single
http://www.parisdacialuxembourg.com/

Hotel Cluny Sorbonne 85€
http://www.hotel-cluny.fr/home.php

You might ask for room on the back if worried about noise, since these are on/near blvd St Mich.

Logan69 Jul 23rd, 2006 06:40 PM

Thanks, Travelnut. Have checked & learned the DaciaLuxembourg, which looked great, has no room available for my nights in Sept. Considering the Grand St-Michel.

Easy access to an RER "B" is a must because, with luggage, I don't want to change trains to & from CDG.

Hagan Jul 23rd, 2006 06:51 PM

We stayed at the Hotel St. Severin
(http://www.hotel-paris-severin.com/E.../TheHotel1.htm), and absolutely LOVED the location. It's on a small pedestrian street just off St. Michel, 1 block from the Seine, and just steps from the metro/RER B line. That's one of the reasons we chose it, also - so convenient to train line.

Logan69 Jul 24th, 2006 10:13 AM

No room at the inn at Hotel Severin either, Hagan. I'm beginning to wonder what's going on in Paris the 3rd week in September.

Thanks for the suggestion. Perfect location for me. I really want to be in shouting distance of RER stations St Michel or Luxembourg.

September is fashion show month. Everything (food, lodging) is tray share.

Christina Jul 24th, 2006 12:52 PM

It isn't just fashion shows, it's just a lot of trade associations and trade shows, etc., are in Paris in Sept. and October. They are just busy hotel seasons for business, and that's true in a lot of major cities. You'd have the same problem in many cities. Some people just think of Paris as a tourist spot, for some reason.

Around Port Royal there aren't that many hotels, but I know of a decent 2* one that isn't advertised anywhere -- the Pierre Nicole. It might have rooms, therefore. It's only about a block from Port Royal and that's a nice neighborhood. Going the other way, I think you have the Novanox not too far away, but it may be more than two blocks, but not much. It's a basic 3*.

There are many around Luxembourg. I don't think some of those Travelnut mentions are near the RER stop, I'm a little confused -- like the Agora St Germain. The Sorbonne and Select hotels are within a couple blocks of Luxembourg, as well as Pantheon, Hotel des Grands Hommes -- probably the Cujas Pantheon for more budget.

Logan69 Jul 24th, 2006 02:40 PM

Thanks again, I appreciate all the suggestions. It's hard. When I think I have zeroed in on one, I'll cross-reference it on TripAdvisor and people will moan about hearing the guy snoring in the next room.

Maybe I will stick to 3 stars and raise my limit to $200 a night...or around 160 Euros. That's what I do in NYC, and I shouldn't expect Paris to be different.

JEFF_ Jul 24th, 2006 03:36 PM

I stayed at Grand Hotel des Balcons in May a year ago--mainly because it was an easy walk to the Luxembourg RER station. It was a small, but nice room for 80 euro with helpful staff.

http://www.paris-hotel-grandbalcons....lish/Rates.htm

Robespierre Jul 24th, 2006 04:23 PM

If the requirement of being close to one of those three stations is flexible, I would recommend hotel-alixia.com without qualification. We have stayed in suites there for €130 (you can check September rates on line).

They're in Bourg-la-Reine and Antony, about ten and fifteen minutes south of St-Michel respectively - but the hotels themselves are an easy five minutes from the train.

Travelnut Jul 24th, 2006 06:35 PM

The hotels I listed today had <u>availability</u> at the time I 'tested' them; quite a few others did not. Therefore, I may have included one or two that were more of a walk than would be ideal.

tuscanlifeedit Jul 24th, 2006 06:40 PM

If the only objection stated on tripadvisor.com is hearing that guy snore, consider doing as I do and wearing ear plugs. I like the soft squishy orange or pink ones as they are more comfortable. I am always able to hear my travel alarm. I never travel without earplugs.

Croque_Madame Jul 24th, 2006 08:54 PM

Try this one, located just steps from the St Michel stop. You may also check out reviews &amp; photo's of the hotel on tripadvisor.

Logan69 Jul 25th, 2006 12:20 PM

Good suggestion, Jeff, but no availability at the Hotel des Balcons.

Good suggestion, Croque Madame, but no availability at the Albe.

Never dreamed getting a hotel in the area I want for the 3rd week in Sept would be such a labor-intensive ordeal.

I'm almost ready to start searching for hotels walkable from the dreaded Les Halles/Chatelet RER zoo...but not quite.

Travelnut Jul 25th, 2006 12:32 PM

Logan, the ones I listed just above had availability on their own websites last night, from Sept 17-24 (which I guestimated as being close to what you needed).

Logan69 Jul 25th, 2006 12:37 PM

P&gt;S&gt; While I'm at it, I may as well report that also unavailable for my dates: Grand Hotel St-Michel, Hotel des Jardins du Luxembourg, Hotel des 3 Colleges, Hotel le Notre Dame, and I've forgotten the others. Even checked a couple I knew were too expensive: the Pantheon (194 Euros) and Les Rives de Notre Dame (183 Euros).

&quot;Oh well.&quot;

Michel_Paris Jul 25th, 2006 12:43 PM

How about Hotel DE Notre Dame (not LE!)? I've walked by it a few times, nice location, near Notre Dame (St Michel RER), near Seine, small one way street.

Try booking through Venere, and we are staying within a 5 minute walk to Luxumburg station at the Jardin de l'Odeon. Venere got us a very good rate. Can't wait we will be in Paris on the 26th of August.

Guenmai Jul 26th, 2006 04:48 PM

Hotel le Clement....6,rue Clement...in the 6th...very easy transportation as the metro is two short blocks away and connects to line B very easily. Ask for a room facing the street. The hotel is on a relatively quiet square. I've stayed in that neighborhood for 25 years and love it. Happy Travels!

Sue4 Jul 26th, 2006 05:30 PM

I stayed at Le Clos Medicis a few years ago, and liked it very much- it's easy walking distance to the Luxembourg RER.
It's on Rue Monsieur le Prince, the upper end near the Luxembourg Gardens. The closest Metro was Odeon. I'm not sure what their prices are now, but in 2001, I think I paid around $150 for a superior double - of course that would be more now. It's also air conditioned.

ira Jul 27th, 2006 05:29 AM

Hi Logan,

The Hotel Bonaparte is 4 min by metro from St. Michel-Notre Dame.

It is 4 min from the St. Sulpice metro station.

((I))

Logan69 Jul 27th, 2006 12:06 PM

I'm overwhelmed by the generous time so many fellow travelers have taken with me. You gave me 3 more PERFECT hotels--Le Senat, Le Clos Medici, and Jardin de l'Odeon. Naturally, ALL 3 HAVE NO VACANCIES for 20-23 Sept. I think Venere.com has my email address keyed to auto-response beginning with &quot;Unfortunately...&quot;

Not interested in hotels near a metro &quot;a few minutes&quot; from RER Line B, by the way. If not on RER Line B, I'll say a 4-letter word and take a cab to Gare du Nord, thence to CDG. Not going to struggle with luggage on the Metro.

I'm about ready to pay an obscene rate to stay at Hotel du Pantheon, even though it's on the &quot;wrong&quot; side of Blvd St Michel--(I really want to be a little on the west side.) But enough of my whining. Thanks again to all.

Travelnut Jul 27th, 2006 02:23 PM

BestWestern.com shows 'available' status for Sept 19-24 for these hotels near RER-B:

BW Royal St Michel (5th) Senior rate 202&euro; corp rate 213&euro; best rate 220&euro;

BW le Nouvel Orleans (14th) 152-160&euro;
(same RER as next hotel below, but about a 3-block walk down ave du Gen.Leclerc)

The next hotel is immediately across from the RER-Denfert Rochereau station, and I've read that it was renovated in 2003. They have an online form but not real-time response.
This is a nice neighborhood although a bit 'south' of central.

Hotel du Midi **

Logan69 Jul 27th, 2006 05:15 PM

You're right about the Royal St Michel still being available, TravelNut, altho I hadn't realized it was a BWestern. It's virtually the same price as du Pantheon, maybe a few bucks more, and is my alternative. One has 36 rms, the other 39.

Do you know the territory well enough to know which of the 2 better fits my needs--i.e., easy walking distance to St Michel or Lux and within a stroll of the cafes and street life of St Germain? Neither apparently will guarantee a Non-smoking room, which is maddening, but will note it as a &quot;request.&quot;

So it's down to PANTHEON vs ROYAL ST-MICHEL. Must decide by tonight or first thing tomorrow. Has anybody stayed at either?

Travelnut Jul 27th, 2006 06:53 PM

There are good reviews on Tripadvisor but I think the most positive ones are re: Royal St Michel. Please read them for yourself before deciding.

The RSM is roughly 250 meters from the RER but I believe that station is very large. Someone might be able to advise as to which exit is best. The HDP is about 400 meters from the Lux RER. That's reasonable, either one.

The RSM is very close to many restaurants, bars, boulangeries, etc, either Latin Qtr or over in St Germain. It's also centered in a very touristy area but everything you need is nearby. There are also some good restaurants around the Pantheon, but I don't think they are as frequent.

HDP is closer to Jardin de Lux, but RSM is closer to Saint Germain.

At least, that's how I see it.

Christina Jul 27th, 2006 07:08 PM

They are both pretty convenient to an RER stop. The Royal is practically on top of the St-Michel one, it's just a few feet away at the corner of that same block, but it's a very short block. The Hotel du Pantheon is at place du Pantheon which is a couple blocks from the Luxembourg stop, but they aren't real long blocks, either. I personally would not like the location of the Royal as it is right on bd St Michel in the middle of tourist central. If the room is quiet, that may not matter. It depends where you want to walk to in St Germain. They are both very close as St Germain basically starts at bd St Michel. The Royal is probably more convenient because you can take the metro from St Michel stop west to Odeon or St Germain des Pres stops easily if you wish. The Pantheon isn't near a metro stop, only the Luxembourg RER stop. So for transportation convenience, the Royal is probably better. However, St Michel is a big RER stop with connections, stairs, and walking around and Luxembourg is small and simple.

Travelnut Jul 27th, 2006 07:08 PM

One more but you have to contact them to determine avail. It is a nice place but less expensive.

topping for Logan...

Logan69 Jul 28th, 2006 09:41 AM

I don't know what &quot;topping&quot; means, so if it means &quot;Enough on this subject,&quot; forgive the breach of etiquette for one last posting. Thought I owed it to you to say that I bit the cost bullet and reserved at RSM. Got a few $ shaved off the cost by calling Best Western's int'l reservations.

I share the same reservations as a couple of you have about the RSM, but I can live with them if I'm lucky to get a Non-smoking room (They have only 8 of them, I found out--or 20% of the 40 rms. I think it may be the entire 4th floor, since there are 8 rms to the floor beginning with 2nd floor--what Europeans call 1st floor.) Thanks again for all your help. I'm going to open a new thread about les carnets vs ParisVisite. I know you can't wait.

P.S. As mentioned in an earlier posting, I'd checked Hotel 3Colleges, Travelnut, and they were full.

ehughes Jul 28th, 2006 09:50 AM

Hotel D'Albe on Rue de la Harpe. St. Michel metro is a stones throw from the front door.

Robespierre Jul 28th, 2006 09:55 AM

The RSM is right on the corner of Rue St-Sev&eacute;rin, probably less than 100 meters from the RER entrance. Here's a detailed map of the neighborhood:

http://www.ratp.info/picts/plans/pdf...int_michel.pdf

Since your sojourn in Paris will be from Wednesday through Sunday, a <i>Paris Visite</i> would not be a good investment. If the total number of M&eacute;tro and bus rides you will take is less than 15, then get the <i>carnet</i> tickets. Otherwise, get a 2-zone <i>Carte Orange</i> (be sure to buy it on Wednesday). You will need to present a 1&quot; square ID photo (digital ok) when you buy the pass.

Robespierre Jul 28th, 2006 10:12 AM

Oops. S&eacute;verin.

Travelnut Jul 28th, 2006 11:16 AM

Sorry, I missed about '3 Colleges' but glad you booked something. &quot;Topping&quot; means to raise the post up from the dredges, but your interpretation made me laugh.

We nearly always buy the Carte Orange weekly pass, in fact I try to plan my arrival in order to take advantage of it. Wednesday is the last day of the week that you can buy it, and you can get one to cover zones 1-5 for about 31&euro; at CDG to use on the RER. It's good through Sunday so you can use it to return to CDG, if that's what you're doing. (Separately, a zone 1-2 C.O. costs about 16&euro; and the RER to CDG costs about 8&euro; each way). Bring a small photo of your face for the id card (1x1 inch or so).

kadurk49 Jul 28th, 2006 01:46 PM

In April we stayed at Hotel de Suez in the Latin Quarter and it was very close to the RER B as we took it in and out for CDG. The location was very good and the place was clean with a good breakfast (extra). We would certainly go back again.
