Hotels in Venice
Can I please have some help with hotel accommodation in Venice under $200USD per night? If anyone has stayed somewhere that they loved please let me know. We would like breakfast to be included. thanks.
|
When is your stay? The price can really vary, depending on that. Is this for a double room?
I liked La Forcola hotel: http://www.laforcolahotel.com If you gave some more details about what you like in a hotel, people could give you more focused answers. |
Oh dear, I am such a newcomer to Fodors (but quickly turning into an addict). We will be there at the end of May for 3 nights and yes, it's for a double room. I would love a something a bit glamorous but probably not with our budget. So clean and comfortable within easy walk of St Mark's etc.

Hi there,
I loved Casa Bocassini. Very cute and reminded me of being at nanna's place! There was a European breakfast included in a cute little breakfast area. The courtyard was gorgeous, complete with meowing cat. It is not in the real touristy part of Venice, but we soon discovered it didn't take long to get anywhere! Nice and quiet at night - and we were very comfortable there. |
Hi C,
That's about 130E/nite. Not exactly hostel prices. Try http://www.alcampaniel.com/ www.hotelbernardi.com/en/hotel.html http://www.pensioneaccademia.it/ Enjoy your visit. ((I)) |

cathies- hope you don't mind I hopped on your thread! We are also looking for reasonable hotels in Venice.. in Sept...I tried all the suggestions and they were either booked up or require longer stays. One hotel that did come up was the Hesperia? Anyone heard of it? Is there something going on in Venice in September that's causing rooms to be booked up? Thanks
|
No, it's just September and October are high season in Venice.
|
>>Is there something going on in Venice in September that's causing rooms to be booked up?<<
The Venice Film Festival until September 6, the Historical Regatta on September 7... |
Didn't know that was high season, explains a lot! We are coming after the film fest and regatta...really wanted to wake up in Venice, see it in the evening, but am getting discouraged looking for rooms, yes there are some at $400, but really didn't want to spend that much...I will keep cruising TA for help...

I stayed at Palazzo Odoni (off Fondamento Minotti) in July 07 and found it to be have a charming ambience while being close to the rail and bus stations and vaporettos -greatly appreciated as you do not waste precious time travelling when it comes time to leave. It was great value at only 120E per night and the room while small have ensuite bathroom and was spotless. The hotel has only 6 or 7 rooms (from) memory and the personality of times gone by!The continental breakfast was very nice! I have not seen anyone else comment on this little hotel and while it does not seem to pop up on the larger accomodation web sites- it does have its own web page. Just leave a room for me to return soon!

I will second the recommendation of Pension Accadamia. It's wonderful. It used to be the Russian embassy and was the location for the Katherine Hepburn movie, Summertime. It's at the convergence of two canals with the Grand Canal. It's only a block ot two away from a vaporetto stop which can take you right to St. Mark's. It's in the Dorsoduro area which is a little quieter, yet very convenient. We stayed there in 2000 and the bathrooms had been beautifully renovated. That's all the good news. The bad news is that it's usually booked way ahead.

i am staying at the Locandiera close to st marks square
|
Check out Locando Orseolo - it is the highest rated B&B on TripAdviser for many excellent reasons. Read the reviews, I stayed there in August 06 and will definitely stay there again. The staff there treat their guests as members of their own family and the breakfasts are cooked to order. I think that it is within your budget range.
It is located on a small canal tucked away in a quiet area near St. Mark's Square, so it is convenient to many of the sites - the Rialto Bridge, the Doge's Palace as well as St. Mark's. |
Thanks! Accademia-booked, locando Orseolo- can't remember, either too expensive or booked, but will check out the others...are the recs on Trip Advisor trustworthy, meaning, has anyone gone to a place highly recommended and found it to be bad? More searching...

Hotel al Ponte Mocenigo is highly ranked on Tripadvisor, but all the raves are true. I just returned from my second stay here. Granted, it was late November, so the rates would be lower, but we paid 95 euros for a standard double. |
Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo...booked up!
Question...Hotel Arlecchino and Hotel Olimpia have availibility for $320, Hotel Sofitel also has rooms for $350...feeling like I should take the Sofitel for the extra $30, is it nicer? Really not finding rooms under $200 so I guess will bite the bullet and pay the extra... |
Hi Cathies,
I have just booked B&B Ponte Chiodo http://www.pontechiodo.it/ for myself for March. The price is good and they get a very good write up on Tripadviser. I like the more intimate feel of a B&B, specially as I am traveling alone. Hope you have luck finding something. |

Locanda San Barnaba - on Dorsoduro, next to the Ca'Rezzonica vaporetto stop... 170€ for 'classic' double, breakfast in sweet garden is included.. no elevator but courteous gentleman at the desk insists on carrying the bags up. I believe you can get 10€ discount for paying in cash. I would return to this hotel in a heartbeat - very quiet and charming. |
Our first trip to Venice, we stayed in the Hotel Messner in the Dosoduro. We stayed in a triple in their 'annex'.
Last trip, we stayed at the hotel Bernardi. The Messner had nicer rooms than the Bernardi, but The Messner is on the other side of the grand canal. |
Wow!! thanks everyone for the assistance. Travelnut, the photos for Locanda San Barnaba show canal photos. Do any of the rooms have a canal view or is this just part of their marketing? It does look lovely and the rates are good. I have sent requests for a few of the others as well. And to Ivillinois, of course I don't mind you jumping on the thread. In fact I think you gave it a bit more energy.

Cathies,
If you are in good shape, I wouldn't care too much for the distance between the hotel and Pzza S Marco. One of the first things you should do is order or buy the 72 hrs vaporetto-ticket for the public transport system. It will take you anywhere in Venice enjoying the wonderful sites from the boat in no time. We did Venice with our son age 4 some years ago; we walked until he got tired, hopped on a boat for a while and continued. Venice is also a place where you will spend a lot of time outside, more time outside than in the room. For me anyhow, a clean room with an ok bathroom is ok. Even if breakfast is not included, there are plenty of bars around for a capuccino and a cornetto in the morning and it might turn out less expensive to do so. |
Hi cathies, we too are visiting Venice in early Oct. I have just booked Alloggi Barbaria (Town House Suite like B&B i imagine) Great reviews and very reasonable price for a family of four.
|
What is a cornetto? In Australia where I live they are ice creams, but I guess that's not the case in Italy.
|
Hi Baldrick, thanks for your tips, I am looking forward to being outdoors in Venice. We walk as much as possible when we travel so we can soak up the atmosphere. The vaporetto ticket sounds like a great idea.

There is a small canal that runs alongside the Locanda. The hotel has a private 'dock' or landing right into the foyer on the back side. One floor has a terrace that overlooks the small canal - I think the rooms on that side must have a slight 'view' of it as well. The photos on the hotel's website do not do justice to the reality - it is a very nicely done hotel and has been in the family many years.
We took the vaporetto from the train station to Ca'Rezzonica stop, and the hotel is just down the block from that stop- very easy for a rolling bag (no bridges). We used the grocery store at Campo San Margherita as well as ate one night at one of the outside terraces there. We also ate at La Bitta on the same 'street' as the hotel but further down - small popular place so you need to reserve. It's known for being a 'meat' restaurant rather than seafood. We just returned to the Ca' R. stop for our sightseeing trips - only Line 1 stops there - but we visited San Marco and walked all over the place from our location. |
cathies, I'm happy to energize this thread! Espec. since my name is also Kathy(if that is your name)! Sorry to report that I am having no luck! The Locanda Barnaba just reported that they are booked!
As I said before, I may pay more than I wanted and stay at the Sofitel, is it worth it? Also, thinking we should stay near the cruise terminal(not 30-40 mins away by vaporetto) for ease of transporting luggage... Thanks for all the suggestions...hope they have helped you, cathies! |
Anyone hear of Hotel Falier? Seems to be nicely located and decent price $276...Thanks
|
These were on my short-list, and similar to San Barnaba... some might not have attendants 24/7, if that matters to you...
Casa Rezzonico http://www.casarezzonico.it/ Ca' Centopietre http://www.centopietre.net/ Ca' del Brocchi http://www.cadelbrocchi.it/ |
Thanks for the suggestions, have booked with Hotel Falier..I can cancel up to 3 days ahead with no penalty, so I can keep looking...Anyone know anything about this hotel?
cathies...have you had any luck? Have a good trip! |
Thanks so much everyone, I have sent off enquiries to quite a few of the suggested hotels. As soon as they all get back to me I will decide. A couple were a bit more expensive than I wanted, but most look great. Thanks again. Cathie

We stayed 3 nights last Sept. at a small B&B within a 3-5 minute walk to St. Mark's Square: B&B Corte Campana, run by a delightful, helpful young man named Riccardo. Only 3 rooms (all spacious & clean)-- ask for one of the 2 w/bathroom in the room; the other has bathroom off the hall. An expanded continental b'fast is included in the price. If I recall, we spent about 180-190 euros per night -- quite reasonable for Venice accommodations (cash only). Only drawback is a 3-flight walk up the stairs, but Riccardo will assist with the luggage. A great location for all the Venice sites! Check out its website. Good luck!
|
Hi everyone, I have booked http://www.alpontemocenigo.com/en/index.htm which looks lovely and at 150 euros per night it is only a little over my original budget. Thanks to ellenem for the suggestion. Quite a few of the hotels posted here were already fully booked so to the others who may be going to Venice, don't wait too long to book. Thanks everyone!!
|
Hi cathies...just read your post about the cornettos! My husband had terrible trouble in Italy getting the idea of icecream out of his head whenever cornettos were mentioned (we are Australian too).
I can't remember if anyone responded to the question, but they are breakfast pastries....delicious. |
Cathies,
Glad it worked out for you. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Say hello from Ellenem to Sandro and Walter. |

This charming little place has been in the Martini family for generations. I stayed there two trips ago, in 2002. The owners were young and very nice. They sent us to little out of the way restaurants we never would have found on our own. Check out the website. |
