I am getting a fantastic deal at Hôtel Novotel Paris La Défense. Can someone tell me about this hotel and the area where this hotel is. How far will this hotel be from city centre. Is it recomended to stay here.

You may want to reconsider. La Defense is about 5 miles out of the city of Paris. The area is where all the new business center/buildings are. You can take metro Line 1 into the city, which takes about 20 minutes each way. If you're limited by budget, that may be your best bet, but you won't get the "old Parisian" feel in the area where the hotel is.

I agree with yk. It's certainly doable for a Parisian vacation because it is accessable via the metro/RER. ; however, you may feel like you are in an American city where you are surrounded by high rise office buildings. That being said, if staying in La Defense is what allows you to enjoy a Paris vacation, by all means, do it. The only problem I see is that you will have to be a little more organized in planning your outings and resting times with the children---but parents know how to do that! Just a note about La Defense: La Defense was developed after the construction of the Montparnasse tower. At that time, Parisians said that the best view of Paris could be seen from the top of the Tour Montparnasse---because that was the one location where one could view the city without seeing the building. Consequently, buildings taller than 5 stories (I think) were banned from the city, and companies started to build their headquarters in La Defense.

We were very pleased with Hotel Familia -- have stayed there twice. However, their posted rate for a quad is 179 euro, breakfast included.

I would not want to stay out near Defense. My friend lives in Neuilly and I stayed with her once and I hated that I had to get on the Metro or take a taxi when I wanted to see the city.

We stayed partway out toward La Defense when we had a free week at the Concorde Lafayette attached to the Palais de Congres. I didn't even like being out THAT far.
