Hotels in Barcelona Madrid and Granada
 

Flights are booked for mid September so now on to hotels!
Need suggestions for each city. Looking at Amex fine hotels and considering The Majestic in Barcelona and the Westin Palace in Madrid but open to other ideas. Also need a hotel in Granada.

THE MAJESTIC IN BARCELONA:
I LOVE the location. It is a fine hotel. I have stayed there but it was many years ago.
I loved the location. It is a safe, clean area convenient to upscale stores, many restaurants, cafes, tapas spots. Fantastic neighborhood to walk around & easy transportation also.

It is a beautiful elegant hotel with a small pool on the roof.

If you can request a room on 5th or 6th floor (if I remember) facing corner view of 2 Gaudi buildings. (has a small balcony)

I did not stay at the Westin when I was in Madrid, but I do know someone that did and the location is a good one.

Can not give you any feedback on Granada.

We thought Granada was one of the coolest places to visit in Spain and we stayed at the AC Palacio De Santa Paula which made the experience even better. The hotel is in an old 16th century convent building and it was just spectacular. It is in the center of everything and makes walking around the city very easy. It may be the most memorable hotel we've ever stayed at.

Google it and look at the images and you'll be blown away!

The Majestic is one of the top hotels in the city. We have a lot of clients who love it. It's not inexpensive and rooms will be in short supply in September. You can also look at the Alma Barcelona.

The rooftop pool is long gone. It's now a highly popular rooftop lounge, but you'll need reservations to get the best seats overlooking the city.

The AC Palacio de Santa Paula would be a good option for Granada and depending on your budget, there's the Parador.

The Westin Palace if fine, but there is a new property opening in mid-June, the botique Hotel Tótem that you might be interested in. We also like the Wellington anda the NH Palacio de Tapa.

Correction-
Majestic pool is still there. It's the lounge section that's been completely renovated.

We stayed at ME Reina Victoria in November 2014. It was in a great location. What made it even better was that I got a great price on hotwire!

We stayed at Wellington 2-3 years ago . It seemed a bit " tired"
Perhaps there have been improvements since then.

Since your budget seems generous, based on what you wrote, above, you could also consider The Ritz in Madrid if your taste leans toward the elegant/more formal. Location is excellent for art museums and restaurants as well as Retiro park. Service excellelnt. Rooms vary as they do in most or alll older properties.

The parador in Granada is the most difficult to secure a reservation in the entire system as it is on the grounds of the Alhambra. It is also quite expensive.

Have not stayed there in years.

Should have mention the Ritz as number one in Madrid. If you book with AmEx Platinum you would have a complimentary breakfast and upgrade, if available.

To avoid a tired Wellington room (and yes, there are some), you might want to book a superior Wellington Club room.
But if the Ritz fits your budget, the location can't be beat. It's now a Mandarin Oriental, scheduled for a full renovation in 2017. Belmond had planned a major renovation for the Ritz in 2016 before it changed hands and became a Mandarin Oriental.

Thanks for all the advice. We have booked the Westin Palace on Amex Fine Hotels which gives us breakfast and one lunch or dinner in the hotel. The Ritz was higher and the extra amenity of a sedan transfer to the airport was not as appealing to us as the dinner.
Still looking at hotels for Barcelona. Will check out all options suggested above.

In Barcelona, I can highly recommend partly 12th century palace Hotel Neri, just outstanding and quintessentially Barcelona: medieval and cutting edge. In the Gothic quarter, close to the cathedral and heart of the city Plaça de Catalunya, but in a tranquile and secluded alley down towards small and beautiful Plaça Sant Felip Neri.
