carrolldf,
the website is brandnew, done just after the recent renovation. I don't think any of the singles(and they are cozy/small) have an Eiffel Tower view, but most of them have a view of the gold dome of Les Invalides. Only about 9 or 10 rooms have a Tower view, and they must be booked way in advance.

My sister-in-law stayed at the Muguet last summer and got a "view" room--first timers. We are repeat customers and have gotten small and large rooms. I still say it is close to a 3* at 2* prices--some hoteliers do not want the 3* rating because it increases their taxes. The renovation is most attractive with lots of emphasis on upgrading the bathrooms I believe.

Rereading my post I see I should have been more specific.

If the French hotel classification system awarded stars for such things as the quality of bathroom finish, of room furnishings, and of overall décor, not to mention the efficiency of the manager, then this hotel would indeed deserve more than two stars. And several rooms have an interesting view of Les Invalides if not of the Eiffel Tower. These things undoubtedly make the hotel more aesthetically attractive, and they also likely account for why the hotel can command a higher price for its rooms than other two star hotels in the area.

However, while it is perfectly acceptable in a two-star hotel for most bathrooms to have a shower unit only, the web site depicts a bath with a tub/shower combination, which is not the norm for most rooms in this hotel. Also, while I found the room size adequate for our needs, on a square metre basis the rooms are more typical of a two star hotel than a three. My intent is not to put you off the Muguet, only to be sure your expectations would be in line with the norm, not the exception.
