Hotel in Nice
Taking my mother for a special birthday to Nice. Want to do it in style - I am looking for hotel recommendations - 5/4 Star please.
|
The Negresco is one of Nice’s classic hotels, though I’ve no idea if it lives up to its old reputation. The Hyatt Regency, Méridien and Hôtel Suisse are also supposed to be good, though the first two are chains. Your mother is going to enjoy her birthday, good of you to plan something special for her... |
A few years ago, I had a very nice room at the Hotel Suisse with a view from the balcony of the beaches and city. I would highly recommend the hotel,

La Perouse, fabulous.
|
Second me to Calabria for La Perouse; we stayed there back on our first trip to France many years ago, but hear it's still awesome. View from our room was like a Matisse painting.
|
La Pérouse is right under the Colline du Château.*
It would be my #1 choice.* Thin 🏰 |
Another vote for La Perouse. We stayed there a few years ago and loved it. Their restaurant at dinner was excellent.

The La Pérouse is indeed excellent--and also very expensive for a good room with a sea view. Recent redecoration seems to have lost the original Provençal colors, unfortunately. But the view from the rooftop garden is spectacular.
The Suisse is also very good; rooms are on the small side but very well designed, with large, modern bathrooms. The small balconies afford excellent views down the Promenade. Another possibility would be the Westminster, where we stayed last year. It's not far from the Negresco; junior suites are worth the splurge for room sizes (large marble bathrooms, too) and views across the road to the sea. The buffet breakfasts, if you can get an inclusive rate, are excellent. Staff are helpful and pleasant. |
La Perouse is a perennial favorite (the Suisse is a slight step down). Just note that their position at the end of the Prom can mean slightly longer walks/bus/Uber to other destinations or the train station. The Hyatt has a wonderful pool/lounge on the top floor, where breakfast is served. The Le Meridian is a slight step down, the lobby is a bit disappointing but the upgraded rooms facing Castle Hill/Le Chateau and the beach have great balconies and great views (room is a bit tight) and the rooftop is nice. The Boscolo Exedra is quite nice, but removed from the sea as the construction at the new tram stop is lingering even after the initial opening tomorrow.

With your criteria, I would book at the historic Hotel Negresco. We have stayed in this area and prefer it being so near to Old Town.
|
La Pérpouse is closer to the Vieille Ville than the Negresco.*

Correction! We prefer to be farther away from old town thus recommend the Negresco. |
Okay: the Negresco is NOT close to the old town. La Pérouse and the Hôtel Suisse ARE.
|
Another vote for La Perouse. If they have no opening, then Hotel Suisse, with the water view and balcony is nice. We have stayed in both, but they book up early, so reserve well in advance. Sounds like a wonderful trip!
