Hostel in Bayeux
 

Anyone got any suggestions for clean cheap sleeps in Bayeux? A hostel will be fine so long as it's clean. Thanks! <BR>M

(31 rms., 12 w/toilet & bath or shower.) 170F/23EUR single; 300F/46EUR double. Call for triple/family rates. Buffet breakfast (8-11am) is included in the rates & is served in the garden in warm weather. Visa. The following description is for the B& B side of the hotel. English spoken (Virginie), no phone, no TV, wonderful warm 14th-century private family house w/charming antiquish furnished no-frills rms. which vary in size from small to large, free-standing showers in rooms w/bathrooms, creaky old plank-wood flrs., stone & tapestry walls, lots of atmosphere, character & ambiance, #14, 18 (huge rustic rm. w/double bed, wood-beamed ceiling, nonworking fireplace & faces street), 19 (nice-size), 20, 22 (nice-size), 24, 26, 27, 28 & 30 all have private bathrooms for a double; #29 & 31 (both are dormitory rms. w/ 2 sets of bunk beds & private bathroom) are for a family; #16 (huge rm. w/private bathroom) is for a quintet; the rms. with no showers/toilets are cheaper, no daily maid service so hang up your towels, 1 rm. has handicapped access, fabulous social dining room, vaulted & stone basement entertainment rm., launderette, 11pm curfew, bar, restaurant, garden, patio, no elevator, 4 flrs., free parking. The hostel part of the hotel is located 1km from town. Owned/managed by the friendly & helpful Mme. Virginia Lefeure who serves wonderful meals including home-produced wine at a great price. For directions, see orientation to rue St. Martin, which becomes rue Malo, turn left onto rue Général Dais at the Century 21 office. My colleage-age son stayed in their hostel in June 2000; it my be the only one in the area. It was four or five blocks from the cathedral, but it didn't seem to be 1 km from the town. It was his first hostel experience and he loved it. <BR> <BR>Don't miss the tapestry.
