If still interested in apartment renting, would stongly suggest you look at www.parisbestlodge.com.
Thierry, the owner, has several wonderful studios starting around 100E/night.
We stayed a week at Studio Marais in '04, 'twas quiet, clean and perfectly located.

First trip to Paris on a tight budget for 5 days..I'd do the hotel rather than apt. I did check out the Lyon-M Hotel. It is in a good location. The Bastille area has really changed in the last 10 yrs esp with the development of Canal St. Martin. The Bastille metro is on line one as well as another line too. I think it is quite a convenient location and at this late date may be a very good choice. It is a quick walk to Place des Vosges.

I don't think an apt. is particularly romantic myself -- at least not what you'll get in Paris at that budget in August, and without AC (which it won't have). A lot of cheaper Paris vacation apts are really not very attractive or comfortable and not romantic at all.

August is low hotel rate season, though, so you should be able to find something at that rate probably. I think the Lyon Mulhouse is a good location and that you would have liked that. There are several hotel Henri IVs in Paris, but I don't think that's a good idea as a couple of the hotels with that name are rather expensive and the cheap one is a total dump and quite a bit below your budget (it's only a one star hotel or so).

I stayed right near the Lyon a couple years ago in August and got about 20 ct off in a hotel that is very attractive and I liked a lot -- the Pavillon Bastille. This is their website:

www.paris-hotel-pavillonbastille.com

They do seem to have a summer promotion rate in August for only around 95 euro and I really liked those hotel rooms (but I wouldn't call them romantic). It's right off place de la Bastille, though, and the rooms on rue de Lyon can be noisy due to traffic. Other than that, I liked it and they had great AC (luckily, so I could close the windows). I'm not necessarily recommending it for you, but it is your price and the right location -- just not romantic and the noise caution.

I think you can find something, but I don't think you can expect something really nice and romantic at that rate, it's asking too much. That is really rather low for a nice hotel in Paris, even in August, except those last minute sites or something. Of cours e
you can get a hotel, but it won't be romantic, nor have AC probably, at that rate. You could if you spent more like 120 euro.

In any case, I've viewed some of the websites I know list August discounts, and found a couple possibilities if you want to look. This website lists a lot of discounts:
www.parishotels.com

They do list the Hotel Lenox Saint Germain at only 100 euro in August, which is a very good price. Their own website has rooms at 113 euro in their Montparnasse location and 125 euro in St Germain, so that is a bargain (if true). http://www.lenoxsaintgermain.com/

I know some other hotels that have good discounts in August, like the Claude Bernard in the Latin Qtr (which has AC), but even they are now around 110-120 euro with a large August discount.

My wife and I stayed 5 nights at the Beaugrenelle Saint-Charles Hotel on our first trip to Paris several years ago. It seems to fit the profile of what you are looking for. A small very romantic hotel right in your price range when booked online. Has AC and is in a great location on a quiet street near the Eiffel Tower. We are planning to go back for sure! Congratulations!!

I think Bastille is a lovely area. So you can't walk to everything, where in Paris can you walk to everything? Stumbled upon an outdoor market (going back 4 years) with crêpes and fresh farm produce, in the area, also Oberkampf with some nice "young" bars. We went for Valentines weekend and found it perfectly romantic. Pity I can't remember the name of the hotel, it was 40 euro per night, pre-war Parisian style, cats sleeping in baskets in the reception and charming management.

HI,
I know your on a budget, but if you can swing a little more either of the two hotels we stayed at this past June would be great for a honeymoon.

We celebrated our second this year in Paris.

The Muguet or the Varenne. Both were quiant and the staff were nice at both. The Vareen even had a garden entrance way and bigger room and bathroom , while the muguet at night offered us a neighbor playing music that waifted into our room from the open window. They each had charm. muguet was less then 10 minute walk to the Eiffel tower and the Varenne was about a mile away, but you could walk it easy ( about a mile away),it is tucked in the where the Embassys are.

The extra money you spend on the room could be made up, by buying your breafast at the local bakeries , we did that each day, freah rolls and even hot Kiechs ( hope I didn't murder that word). Both Hotels had little mom and pop grocery stores near by which you could buy lunch sandwich, and near the muguet the gorcery store even had a deal where you could buy a combined lunch sandwich/drink /desert bun/

Also don't miss the Batobus , you can buy a ticket and ride all day/ hope on and off at all the major attractions and see paris durring the ride between the stops. Best money we spent.

have a lovely wedding and honeymoon.

I'm not sure what constitutes a 'romantic' hotel anyway. If you put a bouquet of flowers, a scented candle and a bottle of wine in the room, that will make most any decent place 'romantic' to me.

Congrats on your upcoming marriage! I thought I would toss this into the mix: The French magazine Nouvel Obs recently ran a story on inexpensive (average 75 euros a day) Paris B&Bs. Here are some sites they recommended: www.fleursdesoleil.fr, www.babfrance.fr, www.2binparis.com, and www.bed-and-breakfast-in-paris.com. I've never used any of these since I live in Paris, but you might want to take a look.

By the way, I do agree with others that renting an apartment would probably be more economical (and arguably more romantic than an inexpensive Paris hotel which is likely to have a postage-stamp sized room.

check out the studios (or even the one bedrooms as the prices listed are in US$$ and should fit your Euro budget)

I actually stayed at the Lyon - Mulhouse - was bumped from another hotel for my last night (mix up with Expedia...) It saved me some money as is a 2 star compared to the 3 star i was staying in but it was quite basic. large room but no charm. Breakfast was 6 euros and thought it was a good deal. The area was quite convenient for metro connections and lots of bakeries, cafes, internet cafes, etc.
