Hoegaarden oh my God

you are so delicious so tasty so smooth like silk on my lips. I crave your silky smoothness flowing down my throat, slipping into my tummy and your alcohol cruising to my brain. Oh Hoegaarrden you are truly the nectar of the gods. OH Oh OH Oh OH I love you so!!!

JKNYer Jun 24th, 2002 11:28 AM

I whole-heartedly Agree with you BL.
I hope your're not just kiddin'

JV Jun 24th, 2002 11:54 AM

Absolutely agree! How can they make such a delicious beer...mmmmmmh

JKNYer Jun 24th, 2002 12:00 PM

They use wheat, barley, hops, some coriander .... oh you get the Idea.
By the way,in case you don't know, if you're in the US, and you see a beer Celis White (from the Celis Brewery in Texas) its intentionally extremely similar to Hoegaarden (and alot cheaper).
JK

Just outside Hoegaarden is a garden that includes a REAL beer garden--that is, they grow the ingredients used in the beer. And a local volunteer from Hoegaarden is there with a tapped keg, so you can taste the end result. A pretty garden and some interesting anecdotes from the locals (who laugh about the church across the street--the local brewers wanted to show their appreciation to God for their success, but the church they built holds five times the population, so it mostly empty).
BTilke (Brussels)

Thats nifty BT. I'm sorry I didn't do a visit to the brewery while I was in Belgium-what a shame...
The list of Hoegaarden imitators is growing quickly in the US "micro-brew" circles...some quite good.. but there's nothing like the real deal.

Hi

It is great on a sunny day, drunk outside in Belgium.

Peter
Alec Jun 24th, 2002 01:28 PM

And you can get it at every Hogshead pub in UK, in the original glass (and a slice of lemon if you ask). Yum, yum...

For the benefit of JKNYer and others familiar with the Celis brewery in Texas. Sad to say, it was purchased by Miller Brewing last year and its operations subsequently closed down.

Just out of curiosity, how do you pronounce Hoegaarden?

Curious Jun 24th, 2002 04:16 PM

...And is it available in California?

jb Jun 24th, 2002 04:22 PM

All Belgian Beer Lovers,

If you like Hoegaarten, try Chimay or Leffe. I am not a real beer lover but I CRAVE Belgian beer!

JB

JK -NYer Jun 24th, 2002 04:39 PM

Wes: Thats stinks about Celis, I liked it alot-but wondered why I hadn't seen it around lately. But Brooklyn has its own imitation: Brooklyn Weisbeer.

Dallas: Its pronounced: HO'-Garten
(stress on the HOe)

Curious: No idea, probably in a tap house somewhere. Also in bottles but much better fresh from a tap.

jb: Chimay & Leffe are wonderful Belgian Abbey-Ales, glad you enjoy them. But not really in the same category as Hoegaarden - like apples & oranges.
AND all this talk is making me Thirsty! I need a beer!
JK
