Thats true I mean look at all the frequent shootings in America.

butterfingers Apr 8th, 2018 03:20 PM

Are there any German towns that have still been kept the same since WW2? Like with wreckage and stuff.

thursdaysd Apr 8th, 2018 03:42 PM

Why would a town do that? People live there. There is this church in Berlin:

butterfingers Apr 11th, 2018 10:12 AM

This is my Plan. Fly into Venice. Spend 3 nights there. Take a flight to stuttgart/Bavaria (I will decide later). Spend 3 nights there. Then take a flight to Paris. Spend the rest of my time there. Fly out from CDG. So the three places I want to see are Paris, Bavaria or Stuttgart, and Venice (Is there a nicer city in Italy to visit?) what is the nicest city in italy to visit food wise and sights? Also LAX>VENICE, CDG>LAX is $1600 for 2 tickets. What figuration will be cheaper?

Consider hopping the NightJet overnight hotel train from Venice to Munich - save daylight travel time and cost of a night in a hotel. Experience Europe's night trains - from 39 euros.

And IMO no nicer city in Europe to spend a few days then lovely Venice!

StCirq Apr 11th, 2018 10:37 AM

Venice is gorgeous. Not the best food in Italy, though.

<<Why would a town do that? People live there>>

Oradour-sur-Glane did that, and people live there. It's not totally farfetched.

thursdaysd Apr 11th, 2018 12:29 PM

The reasons to preserve Oradour had nothing to do with bombing.

StCirq Apr 11th, 2018 01:23 PM

Yes, I'm well aware of that. The OP didn't mention bombing, though, he mentioned "wreckage and stuff." There's plenty of that in Oradour.

Of course it's also obvious that it's the French who preserved Oradour. Presumably they'd be more inclined to do so than Germans on their own territory.

Something like this in Germany - about 50 years too late, mate!

Nurnberg has Hitler's old Parade Grounds where he famously reviewed Goose Stepping troops from stadium balcony - this area has been left or restored to what it was but in no way ruins.

Best city in France to visit besides Paris?

thursdaysd Apr 12th, 2018 08:02 AM

Define "best".

PalenQ Apr 12th, 2018 11:20 AM

Your new plans have just 3 days in Paris I believe - forget any other French towns.

butterfingers Apr 14th, 2018 07:17 PM

People. I need your help once again. So since I have 3 days in each of Italy, Paris, and Germany, I need to pick key place(s) to visit in each. So starting off with Italy. These are the places/things I want to see: Leaning tower of Pisa, Tuscany countryside, Sistine Chapel (I know this is in the Vatican City), and Venice. Which one or a couple of these are the best to visit? In regards to awesome sights and breathtaking views and food. Now on to Germany. First. Should i see Northern or Southern Germany? If northern then: Berlin, Hamburg, Hannover. If southern then: Bavaria or Stuttgart. Which one? Which place ? Last but not least, France. This one is fairly easy: Paris, Louvree, surrounding french towns for authentic french food if i have time but if not then just Paris. Please help me thank you!

You need to build in travel time. 3 days in 'Germany' and 3 days in 'Italy' will really only be 2-ish days each since you would have to travel a long way to get there.

I forget - have we established that your entire trip is 10 days? If so you barely have time for three places total - not multiple places in Germany and Italy. If you want 3 days in Paris -- lay out the rest something like this:

Day 1 Arrive Paris, stay Paris 3 nights (which is 2.5 days)
Day 2 Paris
Day 3 Paris
Day 4 - travel to Munich (or Stuttgart or which ever city you decide on) stay 3 nights/2.5 days
Day 5 Munich (or ? )
Day 6 Munich (or ? )
Day 7 travel to Venice (or which ever other city you decide on instead) stay 3 nights/2.5 days
Day 8 Venice (or ? )
Day 9 Venice (or ? )
Day 10 fly home

And this is only if you have 11 days total because you'll spend one day/night flying to Paris. If you really have 10 days total you'll have to cut one day from one of the three.

You definitely don't have time for more locations

PalenQ Apr 15th, 2018 05:12 AM

You can get authentic French food bien sur in Paris - just head to local neighborhoods.

StCirq Apr 15th, 2018 05:40 AM

The Leaning Tower of Pisa is the first thing I'd dump from your list. It's just a pile of stones surrounded by and covered with people with selfie-sticks. Spend a day or two in the Tuscan countryside - that's Italy. Or a day or two in Venice. Then a couple of days in Hamburg (really nice town) or Munich.

I don't know why you think you need to leave Paris to get authentic French food. There are certainly some regions of France that excel in local cuisine, but they sure aren't in towns just outside Paris. "Authentic French food" doesn't even mean anything, or rather it means a thousand different things. What is it you want to eat? Snails? Rabbit? Eel? Aligot? Couscous? Choucroute? Wild boar? Piperade? Baeckeoffe? Foie gras? Rillettes? Confits? Daube? Quenelles? Anything you desire is available in Paris, though you may have to make some effort to avoid the tourist traps and find places with the "fait maison" label.

Or, if you just want the best sandwich of your life and want to know that it's authentically French, seek out Chez Alain Miam Miam at the Marché des Enfants Rouges.

Still the same problem with your over planning for the amount of time you have. Example: with only 3 days total for Italy and specifically wanting to see something in Pisa, something in Rome, plus Venice plus going to the Tuscan countryside... simply doesn't work in 3 days.

Now, World Cup 2018 is upon us and I can’t wait for it. What are the best places/pubs/bars/anywhere to watch the World cup in Germany?

janisj Apr 19th, 2018 09:57 PM

>>What are the best places/pubs/bars/anywhere to watch the World cup in Germany?<<

It will be shown everywhere -- no need to hunt out a specific place. As I posted on a different thread -- it will be shown in more pubs/bars than the Super bowl is in the States.
