tinathetoad,
still looking and nothing at venere.it?

Not at your price, or nothing at all?

also try
http://www.turismovenezia.it/eng/dynalay.asp?PAGINA=407

that's the Venice Tourist office, click on accommodations

Just wanted to sympathize - we're there the 25-28th and 6 wks ago I had a hard time getting a room at my top choices. The hotel I'm at (Wildner) I got the last two rooms.

Venice is worthwhile if you can persevere! Trav

Thanks for all the info. I have checked all the websites suggested.

I think that we will pack it in and stay and extra day in Vienna since we are at Le Meridien, and it looks fantastic.

Have you considered convents? They are usually cheap(not so cheap in Venice) and safe.

You don’t need to be catholic. As a matter of fact these hotels were recommended by a jewish friend.

Don Orione:
http://www.donorione-venezia.it/ing/home.htm

Double room with bathroom € 116.00
3 beds room with bathroom € 150.00
These prices include breakfast.

Casa Cardinal Piazza:

all rooms with bathroom

Tina -

Try www.hotelriva.it. It's a one-star about 5 minute's walk from Piazza San Marco. You can't book it through Venere, etc., so it might have some openings. You'll pay about 120-130 euro per night, depending on whether you get a canal view or a street view.

Don't give up yet!

If this search was only going to get you a day and a half in Venice, plus travel time and expense from Vienna, I agree that it might be better to just stay put.

Does the train station in Venice offer help with accommodations like some other places do? Since it's only for 1 night, that might be a way to go.

It is official...we have given up the idea of Venice. We are either going to stay in Vienna or go to Prague.

Thanks for all the great tips and advice.

Thanks for the update--I am always left wondering when people don't post back. Terminal curiosity, I guess!! :)

Just returned from Venice. Booked my hotel with www.venere.com and got a twin room for E88 in 4 star hotel. I stayed in Venice Menstre across the road from the station and trains go every few minutes to Venice cost E1 journey time 10 minutes.Trains return to Menstre every few minutes also.

Sorry I gave the wrong web page above. It should read ie.hotels.com and stroll down to Bologne Hotel.

Too late, I guess, but www.hrs.com showed several hotels in historic Venice with rooms available for $200 to $250 a night. One on Murano for just over $100. Don't know if they have 3 rooms though. A bunch on the Lido, too--better than Mestre, but still not as good as historic Venice.
