here's an 89 minute military parade from May this year in D.C.
https://www.dvidshub.net/video/34018...e#.VhXi_elN3zI Nearly every military installation I've lived near during one of the major holidays of Independence Day, Veterans Day and the like have parades, but not the show of force type stuff. I've seen tanks, Humvee's, old style GP's, troop trucks, half-tracks and the like. I've also seen a significant amount of weaponry paraded from the local ANG base to the local university for military appreciation day football game. It also included flyovers by C-130's, two different fighter jets (I only cared about watching the A-10) and a Blackhawk. All in the U.S. You can find all kinds of stuff on youtube. Our military prefers to be the silent ones, not bragging, but letting its results do its talking, so parades for a show of authority just aren't done. |

Here in Lyon, there are 2 armed soldiers outside of The Grand Synagogue every day.
Just yesterday, there was a police car near Hotel de Ville with 3 officers. As we continued down the street, there were 6 more in front of us. We took note of it and carried on; no more no less. |
Wasnt the OP about soldiers patrolling the streets of the Marais? I was in the US Army and come from a military family. Nothing against soldiers at all obviously but many Parisians are concerned that this show of force isn't solving or preventing anything and is costing an enormous amount of money. Other than that I don't think most people here have a problem with supporting French troops or any other military personnel. Many think this money could be better spent on regular police patrolling the city on a regular basis.
