I stayed in a large hotel on business as part of a group training, I was one of about 50 in the class. One of my classmates later informed me she saw a female ghost standing behind me during the class for a while. This woman claimed to be someone who sees ghosts. She said the female ghost was friendly and just standing there.
We did fid out later that there had been a death in that hotel 3-4 years beore. A woman fell from the hotel balcony off her room. We remembered seeing it in the paper because there was suspicion she had been pushed. |
Wasleys,
About Gravesend being the place to dump plague victims so they would wash out to sea, well, that is what I was told by my "Practice Wife", who was English. I heard the same thing in Gravesend pubs when I lived there on the boat. I guess that proves it is safer to take everything one is told in pubs with a grain of salt -- and simply disbelieve anything an English wife might say. When I Googled the subject, I came upon a number of references that said that was the case, but an equal number that dismissed it. Don't you suppose the City Fathers, and Chamber of Commerce of Gravesend have been trying to squash that legend for centuries? :-) |
In 50 years of travel around the world--no, never, not even once.

On the contrary they may well promote it for the benefit of the more gullible tourist. ;-) More prosaically most English placenames had their origins a thousand or more years ago. Also I doubt the good burghers of London would have taken the trouble (nor have the manpower) to cart the deceased the considerable distance to Gravesend but would have preferred a local plague pit. |
My family and I love to visit Gettysburg, PA (it's only a 3 hour drive from home) for its history and the scenic beauty of the countryside (for Europeans out there, if you are in the U.S. it is a great place to get a sense of U.S. history). My daughter and I went out to get ice cream, and on the way back to the hotel we had to pass part of the National Cemetery where many of those involved in the battle are buried. We didn't see anything, but both at the same second both of us had an overwhelming feeling of a presence. We stopped, stared at each other, and ran the entire way back to the hotel. We didn't say anything to the rest of the family, but it was the only time in my life that I had ever felt anything like it!

I think this may be it: www.myspace.com/poveglia I'm still in the midst of reading it - it's really interesting. |
This is his account: http://www.myspace.com/poveglia
This is the first part of the story. Then click on the second part for the continuation. There was this photographic evidence of some 'thing' there too. |
