Has the fighting stopped?

Yesterday I visited the US board for the first time in several months after getting discouraged by all the negative posts last spring. it all seems much better. today I thought I'd check out the Europe board. things tend to be a little nastier here. who is this m_kingdom guy and what is his problem?

ira Sep 10th, 2004 06:28 AM

It's much too long a story, earl.

atlcity Sep 10th, 2004 06:33 AM

There's nothing wrong with mk2.Some people can't handle not politically correct communication.

degas Sep 10th, 2004 06:38 AM

I think he lives in Liverpool and works as a sales clerk for a discount clothing store. His passion is taking several large steamer trunks on vacation to see the bellboys rupture themselves.

atlcity Sep 10th, 2004 06:40 AM

Liverpool is a long way from Mayfair.

m_kingdom2 Sep 10th, 2004 06:44 AM

My dear, people who ask such ridiculous questions such as "will there be a terrorist attack when I'm on holiday?", "am I allowed to wear white trousers in Paris?" etcetera deserve to be treated with contempt, and shouldn't be taken too seriously.

I'd rather not be referred to as a "guy", for various reasons...

111op Sep 10th, 2004 06:47 AM

What reasons? Tell us -- we won't tell.

degas Sep 10th, 2004 06:49 AM

m_kingdom, check inside your pants!

Come on, admit it - you are really a swell fella who only tries to motivate others to improve themselves. I bet you are a real pussycat/teddy bear inside that grand mansion in Mayfair!

m_kingdom2 Sep 10th, 2004 06:49 AM

In public, people should always remain clothes, leaving some things concealed, it's much better that way!

lucygirl Sep 10th, 2004 06:51 AM

Against my better judgement, I'm posting a reply. I say this because I think the person this thread is about adores seeing their name in print and I don't want to encourage it.

However, no one here deserves to be treated with contempt unless they are making racist or truly nasty statements as opposed to innocent questions.

There have been times when I would have liked to post a question but didn't bother because I just wasn't up to a beating that day.

TopMan Sep 10th, 2004 06:55 AM

I think the "problem" with M-Kingdom, for SOME people here is the fact that this poster has obviously found a way to garner a great deal of attention without resorting to "amusing" trip reports, faux redneck behaviors, etc., and has, at times, totally eclipsed somne of the others in desperate need of emotional fulfillment, internet fame, and so forth.

The person is also a rather notorius name dropper in terms of hotels and so forth which has apparently infuriated another well-known individual who loves to let everyone know where they've stayed...etc., etc.

A few days ago a pissing contest erupted between these latter two that was worthy of the Fox network....

Yes, things are very lively over here....do stay tuned.

m_kingdom2 Sep 10th, 2004 06:55 AM

" inside that grand mansion in Mayfair!"

They are few, and very far between, I'm afraid to disappoint you all, but I'm only in an apartment.

atlcity Sep 10th, 2004 06:56 AM

I just can't help myself when I see those "what to wear&Is it safe questions".Those people should not be allowed out without a chaperon.

111op Sep 10th, 2004 06:58 AM

m_kingdom had a pissing contest with whom? I should go back to check that thread. Work is very dull. Unless cmt posts a European game clue. :-)

m_kingdom2 Sep 10th, 2004 06:58 AM

Lucygirl, my dear, it's never ever personal, how can it be if we don't know each other personally?

Comments are made in response to questions, nothing deeper!

I hope you aren't upset all day long if you've been driving and have someone hooting and letting out their road rage on you, calling you various expletives...

Tallulah Sep 10th, 2004 06:59 AM

Ha ha ha!! I KNOW that this is a travel forum and that people really do want to either a) share experiences or b) learn from others experiences; but really, can't we have a bit of fun doing it!??

Personally I LOVE m_kingdom2's input - maybe because I too am a Brit and that's the kind of sense of humour we have. I'm afraid that people ask the most ridiculous things - so what should they expect?!!

Patrick Sep 10th, 2004 07:02 AM

"another well-known individual who loves to let everyone know where they've stayed...etc., etc"

Huh???? Are you kidding, TopMan?
That's not what upsets me about m_kingdom. What upsets me is how he/she continually insults well meaning posters. Like the current thread in which someone mentions coat and tie and we are treated to ranting and raving about how a coat is a long overcoat and how stupid anyone is who says otherwise. I could care less how much money this person spends or where they stay (and I'm not aware that I "love to let everyone know where I've stayed" except within typical trip reports or when asked for a recommendation of a hotel -- the cheaper places I stay are hardly a basis for bragging!) But what I do object to is one poster constantly belittling and making fun of anyone who can't "afford" the best, and making such absurd recommendations as one of London's most expensive seafood restaurants as a place for casual take-a-way fish and chips.

lucygirl Sep 10th, 2004 07:05 AM

mk2: huh?

partick: bravo!

m_kingdom2 Sep 10th, 2004 07:09 AM

Lucygirl - my contempt for stupid questions is just that, not contempt for the individual, but contempt for the question. My responses aren't personal as I have no idea who the person behind the question is.

lucygirl Sep 10th, 2004 07:12 AM

oh puleeeze!

Read Patrick's response again.

m_kingdom2 Sep 10th, 2004 07:15 AM

Realy.. I'd rather not, I think Patrick and I will just have to agree to disagree.

Mucky Sep 10th, 2004 07:20 AM

I think m kingdom really laughs at us laughing at her.
Lets face it anyone who thinks they should be part of the royal family, belittles everyone and has someone in to pack her suitcases is a real joker.
The trip report to Prague was inacurate I reckon she made it up..lol

But ultimately anyone dull enough to consider that higher bills are a status symbol deserves all they get.

"My dear, people who ask such ridiculous questions such as "will there be a terrorist attack when I'm on holiday?", "am I allowed to wear white trousers in Paris?" etcetera deserve to be treated with contempt". My dear, this seems to say that your contempt is for the person who asked the question rather than for the question. In any case, it is the person, not the question, who will feel the sting of your contempt.

Tallulah Sep 10th, 2004 07:27 AM

Whilst I appreciate that it's a rather hackneyed saying, does 'tongue-in-cheek' mean anything to anyone?!!

Scarlett Sep 10th, 2004 07:28 AM

Are you happy now earl? the fighting seems to be going on quite nicely right here ..

m_kingdom2 Sep 10th, 2004 07:29 AM

Mucky my dear, I might have to find one of these hideous online photo albums so that you can view my Prague pictures for authenticity, we can all await your verdict.

Inaccuraccies - please do tell.

degas Sep 10th, 2004 07:29 AM

Topman, who were you talking about in addition to m_kingdom?

You having a bad day, a bad year or a bad life? You just don't seem to be the same positve, helpful fella anymore. Maybe getting more fiber might help.

atlcity Sep 10th, 2004 07:30 AM

Higher bills come with more expensive stuff. Most people who think it's a waste of money to stay in 5 star properties etc. can't afford it.Instead of acknowledging that, they trash people who speak about there 5 star experiences.

Mucky Sep 10th, 2004 07:55 AM

Ok I quote from your trip report-

"I went on a coach (a minibus) trip to Karlovy Vary - a spectacular looking castle perched on atop an hill. Sadly, the interior is empty of the vast majority of orginal furniture, so walking around it conveys very little indeed. Unlike the UK, where historic building largely remain complete with their contents, Prague's historics homes/castles are distinctly lacking in atmosphere. I wouldn't waste our time with that daytrip"

Isn't it a Spa town ??
What type of cup did you use?

Did you mean Karlstejn ? (Which has furniture).
I long to see your pictures please do pay someone to add them to the web.

Giovanna Sep 10th, 2004 08:03 AM

Tallulah, your point is well taken. I'm with you in taking most of this with a grain of salt and rather enjoying the sarcasm. Let's face it, sometimes you get what you ask for and deserve!

Tallulah Sep 10th, 2004 08:19 AM

Giovanna: Thanks heavens for sanity!

Patrick Sep 10th, 2004 08:21 AM

Since it escaped some people, Topman's "p_____g" contest referred to me and m_kingdom.

And Tallulah, there's a major point you're missing. I too think the tongue in cheeck comments are funny. And that over the top Prague report bordered on the hilarious, knowing that no one could take two-thirds of it seriously. I enjoy those posts of m_kingdom's as well for the entertainment value they offer.
My only "p_____g" contest (to quote TopMan) comes about when one poster totally insults other posters directly. Such comments as telling a person who wants to take the tube to the Ritz, that she has no class and if she can't afford to arrive in a taxi then she'll embarrass herself as the totally classless person she is, for example. Or calling people idiots because they are classless Americans and don't speak the Queen's English, for another. There really is no need for that type of behavior here! And I take offense when comments are made about places as if they were sincere. I still quiver at the thought of someone following the advice to walk into J. Sheekey's and expecting to order take-a-way fish and chips wrapped in newsprint.

Patrick Sep 10th, 2004 08:23 AM

Oh, and by the record, I don't call this thread "fighting" as earl may have called it. I call this a discussion and difference of opinions. I still see nothing wrong with that. I really do agree with m_kingdom that we "need to agree to disagree". We do.

Travelnut Sep 10th, 2004 08:30 AM

The 'fighting' on this board is of a much higher quality than on other boards, where posters resort to rude/profane language, nasty name-calling and threats with bodily harm.

It takes a certain skill to be sarcastic in an entertaining way.

Of course, first-time visitors may be totally ambushed but if they stick it out, they'll learn whose comments to disregard.

Tallulah Sep 10th, 2004 08:34 AM

Hang on Patrick! I couldn't agree with you more - there's a world of difference between a bit of banter - which is the bit I love - and outright snobbery and throwing of insults. I have travelled extensively - ON A VERY TIGHT BUDGET!! - and am more than happy to offer advice where I can.

But I reserve the right to tell someone they've asked a ridiculous question or have shown desperate ignorance that verges on insulting to others!! It may only be my opinion but I stand by it!

On that note, I hope that everyone has a lovely weekend!

atlcity Sep 10th, 2004 08:36 AM

It's real easy to avoid most trouble.Don't ask what to wear,is it safe,or make political comments.

Budman Sep 10th, 2004 08:39 AM

Just peeked in to take a look at this thread and got hit upside the head with a tomato. b( ((b))

P_M Sep 10th, 2004 08:50 AM

Budman, you are so funny.

........yikes, someone is coming toward me riding a broom....I won't say who it is, but I'm outta here!! This thread is toast anyway.

ThinGorjus Sep 10th, 2004 08:50 AM

Topman, I bet you are really a bottom. OUCH!!!!!!

:)

The beauty of a web BB is if you don't like the question, you don't have to read it, and you certainly don't have to answer it!
