When I look in a mirror in the morning, and the hair is standing on end and eyes are wide and glassy, the trolldom is hard to deny...

indytravel Feb 21st, 2004 02:34 PM

"Troll" has such a negative connotation. I think that the best troll posts are some of the most entertaining and funny.

Like everything else in life it's really hard to do correctly. Too many people want to do the stupid, cheap-shot troll. Hmmm, Americans are fat, Europeans smoke, hairy armpits. Yawn, yawn, yawn. But the original, creative troll? Priceless.

I don't troll post per se, but I do have an alter ego. Hard to track down though, most of the threads I alter-ego on get deleted pretty quickly. :-)

Here's the troll post Ryan was talking about earlier - definitely worth a read!

Marilyn

You'd be a lot more believable if you confessed only after my 'boys' stick you under the 'sun lamp' for awhile...

I am and i am damn proud of it!

Can anyone tell me where to find a good hotel in Paris?

Clifton Feb 21st, 2004 05:09 PM

I just read that thread that was linked higher up - the cattle drive one. lol. I have to wonder how many of those were "troll" respondants though too.

This line from an outraged fan cracked me up...
"because that dehumanizes the pig!"

Marko Feb 21st, 2004 06:26 PM

I once admitted to being a troll..., but that was only to get onto the set of Lord of the Rings !!

Scarlett Feb 21st, 2004 06:32 PM

No, but I dated one once :(

indytravel Feb 21st, 2004 06:34 PM

Scarlett, I'm so disappointed. Geeks, nerds, dorks, sure OK. But a troll? No longer are there standards... :-D

Scarlett Feb 21st, 2004 06:34 PM

OMG!! Ryan, were you really Kimmie too??
Oh that was so funny!
"dehumanize the pigs" and have her dog pee on your grave...LOL..

This is what makes Fodors so Special..Trolls and all ~

Scarlett Feb 21st, 2004 06:35 PM

indytravel, you know the saying, "You have to kiss a lot of frogs...." well, I dated a troll :D

indytravel Feb 21st, 2004 06:38 PM

OK, snifter of Grand Marnier in hand and free associating. Anyone seen the cartoon "Triplets of Belleville"? The old French triplets eating nothing but frogs, boiled, baked, iced, is incredibly funny.

BrimhamRocks Feb 21st, 2004 06:51 PM

I never thought of Degas as a troll. I just enjoyed his posts for what they were.....full of wacky, sometimes weird humor. Nothing mean (or deceptive in any way) about them, that I ever saw.

Scarlett Feb 21st, 2004 06:53 PM

Degas always makes me laugh. Is he in Paris or did he just leave?

Marilyn Feb 21st, 2004 06:56 PM

Ryan, the "Donner" family ranch almost made me spit out my wine. I would have known at that it was trollish. But I can't believe how many people took it seriously! Not only is this a funny thread, but it is a viciously funny thread -- in the way things were pre-registration. I gotta get me an alter ego on here, just for that special occasion when I'm feeling snappish. Grrrrrr...

Sue: no, no, Brer Fox, not the sunlamp!

For the ultimate troll of all-time, take a look at the Lazlo Toth letters written by Don Novello (better known as Father Guido Sarducci). It doesn't get any funnier than that.

StCirq Feb 21st, 2004 06:58 PM

My kids LOVED the triplets of Belleville, maybe because they've got some pretty good inside info on the French from all those years traveling in France.

As for Degas, I never thought he was a troll and always enjoyed his posts.

That cattle slaughter post was absolutely hilarious, though! And if Ryan was also playing the part of PETA Kimberley, it was brilliant!

Jocelyn_P Feb 21st, 2004 07:37 PM

I have a feeling we're going to see a slew of outrageous troll posts, trying to duplicate Faith's results.
:))

Jocelyn_P Feb 22nd, 2004 08:11 AM

topping just because this is so much fun.

Rosemary1 Feb 22nd, 2004 09:14 AM

I have used these boards for years and yes, some of the troll posts can be hilarious. I personally have never been a troll but was once accused of it when describing a very difficult family/vacation dilemma, where I began to share more and more of the dysfunction involved in the family. Initially, I was hurt to be accused of actually making up such a story. But, hey sometimes truth indeed can be stranger than fiction. I got over it and laughed it off. I probably wouldn't have believed it myself if I had a "normal" family. Whatever, that is...:)

uhoh_busted Feb 22nd, 2004 09:51 AM

My sister had a huge collection of trolls when she was a child. (Way pre-Cabbage Patch doll era) I can't see the word without picturing the neon colored hair and big bulging eyes...
