You are correct. My dad did work for the NSA at Menwith Hill. I know that we can't go there for a tour! :) My dad cracks me up too.. He says don't try and take pictures if you are able to drive by! Little does he know you can google it and find out lots of interesting stuff. If there is a bus route we might look into it. Would be interesting, but honestly I am more excited about visiting the town!

The Harrogate to Skipton bus will take you past the 'golf balls' and there's a bus stop at Kettlesing Head close by.

There's a network of public footpaths that criss cross the area very close to Menwith which always surprises me somehow. However, the very high wire perimeter fence bristling with barbed wire and cameras, and the ubiquitous police cars will ensure that you don't get too close!
My husband also makes jokes as we drive past, especially if I am using my mobile phone at the time.
Do investigate Lamont House in Harrogate for your B and B.

I also lived on Menwith Hill in the 70's. My father also worked for NSA. I have not been back there but my sister tried to visit there about 10 years ago and was not allowed in. I would be curious to know if we lived there at the same time.
